RULES AND POLICIES

CLASSROOM RULES

Classroom rules apply to all students of every level and are in place to make the classroom a safe and
welcoming environment
.
Be polite.
Be on time.
Respect others property and space.
Turn in assignments.
Come prepared to class.
Leave food and drinks outside the classroom.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURE

This is the procedure for every classroom of every level. Students will:
1. Walk in quietly and on time.
2. Have on hand your instruments, music and pencil from their locker and/or backpack.
3. Leave backpacks, food, and cases in the back of the room.
4. Be ready to play by the time class starts.
5. Follow instructions.
6. Put away in an orderly fashion.
7. Leave the room as neat or neater than they found it.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Students must abide by school absence policy. Attendance to class is mandatory. Student must be present
and on time at every rehearsals and sectional and failure to attend may result in a grade reduction. Failure
to attend a concert will result in a lowered letter grade. In case of an emergency the student or parent
should contact the director at the number and/or email provided.

TARDY POLICY

Timeliness is required for every class period, rehearsal and sectional.

Three late arrivals to a sectional or rehearsal will be treated as one absence.

After 3 absences will result in a lowered letter grade.

HOMEWORK/ LATE WORK POLICY

Students will be given plenty of time to complete any homework assignments. Written assignments must
be turned in on the due date at the beginning of class. Late assignments will be taken on the following day
with a 10-point deduction. Assignments turned in two days after the due date will only receive half credit.
AWARDS AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Students who abide by the rules will be awarded with prizes such as:

Getting to select the classroom warm-up

Be eligible for yearly awards/certificates

Choose to participate in a duet/trio/quartet

Get to select extra solos (not for the orchestra)

CONSEQUENCES FOR RULES VIOLATIONS

Students who fail to follow the rules will be given first and failure to abide may result in removal of the
program. The degree of consequences are as follows:

1. Verbal warning.

2. Be moved to a different spot in the classroom.


3. Put away their instrument.
4. Teacher-student conference.
5. Parent phone call.
6. Parent-teacher conference.
7. Referral.

IMMEDIATE REMOVAL

Students who demonstrate severe behavior in class will be immediately sent to the office with a referral
and may be removed from the program. Severe behaviors include:

Physical aggression towards another student or teacher.


Intentional damage or destruction to school property.
Use or be under the influence of illegal substances.
Use of foul language.
