3.0 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

3.1 INTRODUCTION

This section is to discuss the methodology of this research. The main purpose
of this study is to find out the seriousness, causes, effects and also solution for this
case. To evaluate regarding this issue, the data was collected through questionnaire.

3.2 RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY

Respondents of this study are public in Kuala Lumpur. 20 questionnaires

have been distributed to make this study successful. All 20 have been distributing to
the public.

3.3 RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS USED

This research utilized both the quantitative methodology. The instruments that
were used to collect data are questionnaire. A set of questionnaire, consist of 5
questions. It includes yes-no questions and also opens ended questions. All the
questions are related to the causes, effect, understanding and also
recommendations about habitat loss causes the endangerment of elephants.

With this type of data, it helps my study and also makes my study become
more consistencies.

3.4 RESEARCH PROCEDURE

I need to distribute the questionnaire to the public. Before I distribute it to the

public, I have asked whether they know or not that elephants are at risk today and a
few of them knows about it. I distribute the entire questionnaire.

3.5 DATA ANALYSIS

After got all the answer from the respondents, I need to collect all the
data to know the result for each of the questions.

4.0 FINDING AND DISCUSSION

FINDING 1

Majority understand the terms of species at risk

Based on the questionnaire that have been distribute to the public, 100% (20 respondents) of
them knows that a species in danger of becoming extinct means the species are at risk.

Result
As a conclusion for my study, it shows that most of the public understand the meaning of it.
So, my first findings are consistence.

Finding 1: species at risk

A SPECIES IN DANGER OF BECOMING EXTINCT

Male; 50% Female ; 50%

Based on the graph above, it shows 50% male and 50% female which is 20
respondents are agree that, species at risk means a species in danger of becoming extinct. It
shows that public understand the meaning of endangered species.

FINDING 2
The number of people concern about elephants endangerment

Based on the second findings, my study is to know the seriousness of public in this case,
whether it becomes serious or not. Besides that, 20 questionnaires has been distribute to get
an opinion from the public and also want to know whether the public in Kuala Lumpur is
aware about this case or not. The results for the questionnaire is, 90 %( 18 respondents) said
that they are concern if elephants were to extinct.

Result

Then, the conclusions for my study based on the survey with the public is, this case is
become serious. It also shows that the public are aware and concern with this case.

Finding 2 : Will you care if elephants were to go extinct

10%

No

90%

The graph above discusses the number of individuals that care if the elephants were to
go extinct. Based on the statistic, it shows that 90% which is 18 individuals do care if the
elephants were to go extinct while only 2 people out of 20 respondents did not care if the
elephants were to extinct. This clearly shows that majority people concern about this.

FINDING 3
To investigate the number of people that participated welfare activities of elephants

The next question in my research question of my study is to investigate the amount of

people who had participated in welfare activities of elephants. This finding is based on that
research questions. As usual, when this case happens, it must create awareness among the
public towards the elephants.

Based on the questionnaires that have been distributed, 20%, 4 respondents had
participated in welfare activities of elephants. Then, 80 %, 16 respondents say they did not
take part in any welfare activities.

Result

Based on the information that I get from the public, it shows that public do not have
time to take part in this welfare activities. If the public take an effort to join this activity, they
can visit the elephant sanctuary and provide some funds by joining their activities to help
elephants from being extinct.

activities of the elephants. Unfortunately, 80% which is only 16 respondents have not taken
part in any welfare activities. This shows that majority people do not have time to participate
any welfare activities.

FINDING 4
FACTOR THAT CAUSES THE ELEPHANTS TO BECOME ENDANGERED
There are many factors that lead to endangered of elephants but in my study,
there are one major factor that lead this case. The main factor is habitat loss for the
elephants.

In my study, there are 20 questionnaire that need to be distribute to get an

opinion from the public about the factor that lead elephants to become endangered.
The result from that questionnaire is most of them agreed that, the first factor is loss
of habitat. Total of 100% (20 respondents) agree that the factor affecting the
elephants to become endangered is habitat loss. There are many reasons for habitat
loss. For example to make more land available for housing, to harvest timber to
create commercial item, to create room for cattle ranching and many more.
Result

Based on the information that I get from the public, it shows that public also agree that
habitat loss is the main factor for elephants to become endangered.

Finding 4 : Why elephants are endangered species

Loss of habitat

100%

The pie chart above shows that, 100% which is 20 respondents agree that habitat
loss is the main reason why elephants were to go extinct. Habitat loss due to destruction or
fragmentation causes the elephants to extinct. The above statistic shows that individuals
understand the main cause and reason why elephants are endangered nowadays.

FINDING 5

Suggestions and steps that should be taken to help elephants from being extinct
The next question in my research question of my study is to know the effect of
this case towards the public. This finding is based on that research questions. As
usual, when this case happens, it must give the effect to the public especially to the
victims. In my study, there are three main effect of snatch theft to public in Kuantan.

Firstly, people will be afraid to go out. Then, the victims also will be
traumatized and the last one is lead to the death. Based on the questionnaires that
have been distributed, 48 %, 24 respondents agree that people will be afraid to go
out. Then, 30 %, 15 respondents say that the victim will be traumatized and the last
one 22 %, 11 respondents said that it will cause to the death.

To get more information about the effect of snatch theft to public, interview
with the victims and also with the police officers have been made. Based on that
interview, it will help to get the best result for my study.
