    - From January to December 2013, there were numerous reported drone strikes and clashes between various factions in Yemen, resulting in many deaths. Specifically, US drone strikes were reported to have killed between 0-38 people in January, with 0-7 civilians and 0-2 children reported killed. Fighting between Salafi and Houthi groups in October led to a death toll rising to 24. Clashes between rival Muslim clans in November led to 58 deaths. On December 5th, Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula carried out a major attack on Yemen's Ministry of Defense, killing 52 and injuring 215. The internal conflicts in Yemen intensified throughout 2013.

    - Death toll in attack on Salafi-held town in Yemen rises to 24

    - At least three people were killed in fighting between rival Muslim clans in northern Yemen on
    Sunday, a local official said, bringing the death toll from five days of clashes to 58 as the government
    tried to broker a ceasefire.
    - The Salafis say the fighting began with a Houthi attack last week on their Damaj stronghold, about
    40km from the Saudi border. All the 58 dead are from the Salafi side, according to a Salafi
    spokesman. The Houthis have reported no casualties.

    Yemen also has independent-minded tribes that occasionally attack the


    government over policies they don't like and they align with the above-
    mentioned groups when it suits their needs.

    All these organizations have been highly active in 2013. Suspected Islamist
    assassins have methodically killed 93 security officials and dozens of civilians
    this year.

    killing 52 and injuring 215.
