Box 30001 Las Cruces, NM 88003 To Whom It May Concern: am writing to you on behalf of my student, Mauricio Arizpe, to recommend him for the Department of Music at New Mexico State University. Ihave been Mauricio’s private saxophone instructor for the past four years. For two years, he was my student in Texas where I live, and for two years, he has been my student in New Mexico via FaceTime. ‘While Mauricio was in Texas, he improved a great deal in a short amount of time, and had great success in the Marcus High School band in Flower Mound, TX. His biggest improvements were in his rhythm and technique, all while his tone and musicality were improving too. By his second year, he was already in the top band at Marcus High School, and received the highest score at the District Solo Contest both years. ‘Since Mauricio has been in New Mexico, our weekly lessons changed to FaceTime. Being able to use the technology of today has allowed us to continue the progress that we started in Texas. Mauricio is extremely self-motivated, and I feel that this is essential in a student for FaceTime Jessons to work, because of the inability to see each other in person. Mauricio is consistently prepared for his lessons, and in his practicing, often goes above and beyond what we do in lessons. His success at his high school in Rio Rancho has been outstanding, being a featured soloist in the marching band, and receiving the top score at their solo contest as well. In addition to these successes, Mauricio made the New Mexico All-State Band both years, made first chair All-State as a senior, and also made the All-State Jazz Band. Not only is Mauricio a hard working, diligent student, but he is also an extremely respectful young man, and has a wonderful personality. He sets a fine example for his peers, and has been in the leadership for his band. In my over twenty years of private teaching experience, Mauricio has been one of the best students I have ever had in my studio.
