Bachelor Degree Graduation Requirements

& Application processes for College of Health


and Social Services Nursing Major.
There are three different bachelor degree programs that New Mexico State
University College of health and social services building offers. The three
different programs offered are Bachelor of Public Health, Bachelor of
Social Work and Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
In order to be awarded a bachelor degree the following must be done:
-You must complete the degree requirements shown to the specific department and a minimum of
48 credits of upper division classes. The upper division classes are numbered 300 and up.
-The general education core classes presented in the student catalog for the specific department is
required.
-Students must check in with their academic advisors for current requirements and lists of
specific courses that are needed for those requirements.
Nursing Program
Requirements and steps for B.S.N program administration:
1. Must be a regular NMSU student
2. Must contact your Pre-Nursing advisor in the College of Health and Social Services for
complete Nursing program information and advising
3. NMSU basic academic successful completion of English and Math courses.
4. Prerequisite coursework completion (viewing the wider world courses, humanities
credits)
5. Prerequisite sciences course must have been completed within the passes 7 years
6. A grade of C or better must be achieved in each nursing prerequisite course
7. A competitive minimum GPA of 2.75 must be achieved
8. Pre licensure applicants who wish to apply to the NMSU school of nursing are required
to take a standardized admissions exam and obtain a satisfactory score
9. Applicants will be considered for admissions to the nursing major during the fall or
spring semester after anticipation of completed prerequisite coursework is done.
10. Application deadlines are February 1 for consideration for fall admission and September
1 for consideration for spring.
Even though it is the students responsibility to plan an academic program with respect to the
university department requirements, the college of health and social services sees the importance
of helping the student work out their academic program. Students are encouraged to contact the
nursing department for specific information and career planning.
