Dear Parents and Guardians,

Active Schools Week


Active schools week 2017 is in full swing; Monday Walk a mile with a smile, Tuesday Try it
Tuesday a visit from Inniscarra Sailing and Kayaking Club (thanks to Ruth and James Long!),
Wednesday fun Tug of War, Thursday 5 Aside Ssoccer tournament and Friday Take on the
Teachers challenge. Mrs. McCabe and the Committee have worked very hard and have
achieved their end goal... The Active School Flag (which after inspection today looks very
likely!). Well done to all involved, thanks to the parents who sent in all of the great
photographs and keep up the great active effort at home and school.

Health Promoting Schools


As you are aware we have been making a big effort to understand and improve our approach
to health promotion. Our efforts have been acknowledged and we received our Health
Promoting School Flag today at 2pm. This followed on from our Healthy Breakfast Morning,
held last Tuesday. A big thank you for all of the brown bread and other healthy treats. Thanks
to Mrs. OShaughnessy and the Committee. We look forward to your continued support.

All Aboard 2017 Digital Skills Week 3rd 7th of April

We are delighted to announce that the school was awarded a bronze, silver and gold badge of
distinction for our efforts during Digital Skills Week. Big well done to all the staff and children
involved in digital activities such as; Mini movies, tablet based lessons, Mathletics and scratch
programming.

RSE Talk

We would ask all parents of 5 th and 6th class pupils to attend the RSE talk next Thursday the 4 th
of May at 8pm in the school. The childrens talk will take place on Monday the 8 th of May
during school hours.

Sciath Na Scol

Our Sciath na Scol hurling campaign has drawn to a close after a great game against Rylane
National School. Id like to commend all of our players for their excellent attitude at both
training and matches, they have represented the school with distinction once again. A special
thanks to the 6th class students for their efforts over the years, they will be missed!
We have a Mini 7s hurling and camogie blitz during school hours tomorrow in Ballyanly, could
the attending children please have the usual gear lunch drinks and sun-screen.

Do this in memory mass

The Communion Children will have their last Do this in Memory mass this weekend. Mass will
be held in Mathey Church at 9.30am on Sunday morning.

X Factor

5th and 6th class will be putting two acts forward to the X Factor competition in Blarney
Secondary School on Wednesday 3 rd of May. We wish David Murphy who will be a solo act and
Supreme Seven comprising John OSullivan, Ciarn Hamill, Con OMahony, Emily Hoare, Molly
Lenehan, Rebecca Murphy and Miariam Hegarty the very best of luck! If you would like to
support our fantastic acts the show kicks off at 7pm, tickets are 5 for adults and children are
free.

School Tour Friday 5th of May

We are looking forward to our annual school tour outing on Friday the 5 th of May.

Junior to 2nd class are going to Fota Island Wildlife Park and 3 rd to 6th class are going to
Oysterhaven in Kinsale.

Children are asked to wear their school track suits, however, if it is a fine day they may wear
shorts instead of the track suit trousers. Please ensure that your child has a packed lunch and
a drink. One treat is allowed (no crisps, popcorn or chewing gum please). Depending on the
weather please make sure your child is wearing sun cream or else that they have a raincoat.
Children are asked not to bring mobile phones, cameras, ipods, nintendos or any such
electronic equipment. We are looking forward to having a great day. Children should attend
school at the normal time, we expect to return at approximately 4.30pm on Monday evening.

Family Payments
Please remit any outstanding balance on your family payments before the school tour next
Friday. Thank you.
