THE KOMODO DRAGON

Size
The Komodo dragon is the largest lizard on Earth. They can get up to 10
feet in length and weigh up to 300 pounds.
Diet
These large lizards are carnivorous, meaning they only eat meat. Their
prey includes deer, goats, water buffalo, small mammals, and even
younger dragons.
Habitat
The Komodo dragon only lives on 4 small islands off the coast of
Indonesia, which are Komodo, Rinca, Gili Montang, and Gili Dasami.
Environmental Status
Komodo dragons are a vulnerable species. The cause of this is from
deforestation, hunting of them when they were first discovered, and low
prey levels.
Conservation
Though vulnerable, much is being done to make sure the Komodo
dragon doesnt go extinct. Deforestation is being halted, and
conservationist are monitoring the numbers of their prey to make sure
they dont go down to a point where the dragons cant eat.
Fun Facts
Komodo dragons were believed to kill with bacteria in their saliva, but it
has recently been discovered that they are venomous. The dragons
claws are extremely sharp and are used for digging nests and climbing
trees when they are younger. The tails of the reptiles are so heavy, they
simply drag them on the sand, creating dragon trails. Though large,
Komodo dragons can run up to 13 miles per hour and swim great
distances.
