OUR REF THGeHOrs BASRA; IRAQ. | Attn: Eng, Mai ‘Sub: Geotechnical Investigation for AL-AMAL CITY RESEDENTIAL COMPOUND PROJECT, BASRA GOVERNORATE, IRAQ. Dear Sir; Reference to your request to review the sol investigation report prepared by Mis, ANDREA ENGG TESTS Laboratory for the above site we have the following; “The geotechnical report no. (1842) dated August, 2013 showing the following facts; + Five bore holes lacaled by the cont have been dilled up to 30.0m depth below ‘he natural (existing) ground level + The site was almost flat and the water table at the time of dling was encountered at depth ranging between (1.0 to 1.5) m below the natural ground level ‘+ The diiling has been done using power Rotary driling machine by wash boring process based on ASTM (01542, 05782). + Representative disturbed and undisturbed samples were obtained from the ‘output ofthe SPT Soon Sampler & core barrel. +The bore holes show that the subsurface stratums consist of ~ Very soft to soft cray Clay wih ite fine Sand and some Organic matter inthe top 12.0m, Followed by 10.0 of medium to sti green lean Sily clay with litle fine Sand. Followed by 6.0m of medium to dense fine Silly sand with white tiny marie Shell pieces. Followed by 3.0m mixture of Clayey Sily sand, ‘© The undisturbed sanples that obtained from the diiling process were tested for Unconfined Compressive test, Consolidation test, Swelling test, Direct Shear test and Attreberg Soil Consistency Limits test and other routine tests, + The Gate Level (Fhishing Floor Level) is 2.4m above the average existing ground level + The tial pits excavated by the contractor shows that the water table level recently is minimum 3.0m below the average ground lovel Page 1 of 4 ‘int Pots ante LMS? Based on that a bearing capacity of 125.0 Knm2 can be recommended for Isolated, combined or stip footing placed at (1.4) m from the F.F.L. with maximum foundation width of 2.0m, ‘This recommended bearing capacity wil allow a maximum total settlement that not exceeding 25mm with «safely factor ofa least 3.0, ‘A maximum value cf 12,000 knim3 can be used for the modulus of sub grade ‘reaction (Ks) ofthe soll or ‘he design of the foundation, ‘OPTION TWo: Excavate the site up fo 2.0m depth below the N.G.L. and compact the excavation dopth level to at least 95% of the maximum dry density of the base layer's mateia. ‘Then, approved road base material to bo placod at that excavated level in layers 25cm {hick such that each layer has to be compacted using heavy rollers to at least 98% of the M.D.D. ofthat road base material Based on that a bearing capacity of 160.0 Knim2 can be recommended for isolated, combined or strip footing placed at (1.4) m from the F.F.L. with maximum foundation width of 3.0m, This recommended bearing capacity wil allow a maximum total settement that not exceeding 25mm with «safely factor of atleast 3.0, ‘A maximum value of 18,000 kném3 can be used for the modulus of sub grade reaation (Ks) ofthe sol forthe design ofthe foundation. This allowable bearing pressure was obtained using Terzaghi and Peak chat; "Estimation of the allowable bearing pressure for foundations in sands on the basis of the results of the standard penetration tests".
