Last year Veronica bought two pots of pansies and put them on the side
2 Sermon Series porch for a display of color for travelers on Market Street. Eventually, the
Beaver Dam & Pitts Creek pansies dried up and died, and we threw the dirt and plants into the compost
News/Calendar bin. Last month, while planting new roses next to the side porch, I was

or encouragement from us. The wind carried the seeds, and the seeds sprouted,

5 Writings by Margie Blair The same is often the case with our witness of Christ. We can speak of faith,
say a prayer, or quote a verse to someone and think that it had no effect, but
unknown to us, the spoken word slowly works in the person and helps them
grow in faith and love. Jesus teaches us,

has no idea how it happens. The earth does it all without his help:
first a green stem of grass, then a bud, then the ripened grain.
When the grain is fully formed, he reapsharvest time!
(Mark 4:2629, The Message)
Similarly, Isaiah tells us Gods word affects others as assuredly as the falling
of rain and snow. So will the words that come out of my mouth not come back
empty-handed. Theyll do the work I sent them to do, theyll complete the
assignment I gave them. (Isaiah 55:11, The Message.)
Growing the kingdom of God on earth is a matter of planting seeds. The seed
