Editors Letter
W
e at Monroe recognize the need to look
back to move forward. Our story unfolds
through the archetype of our very own
pin up as feminine features are revealed.
From her back that takes a look back towards past trends,
her mouth that opens up to the female voice and her legs,
which take us to new places. She leaves behind memoirs
of thoughts, interviews, trends and debates, adding a little
sparkle to every page.

From exploring the return of corsetry in the mainstream

to taking a look back at Helmut Newtons iconography
and even debating what makes the female cultural icon.
Just like our brand sculpts the female form into the perfect
silhouette, we have curated an outlook that compliments
the modern woman in the same way. As we put the bomb
back into bombshell, one thing that we have found is
simply timeless is the power of girl power. One of our
Monroe muses who exude just that is no other than the
ultimate IT Girl and Businesswoman Paris Hilton who
could have not encapsulated our vision more for our first
issue.

She has built her own empire, stands for standing out
and is empowered whilst forever empowering others. She
is one of many powerful women in this issue breaking
the boundaries and heightening their sensuality. From
Latex Designer Kim West who places her woman on a
pedestal of sex symbol status at every dress size to Guess
photographer Megane Claire who captures female
empowerment through her lense. Our pin-up ends the trip
down Monroe lane with a detour to her favourite places to
travel to from a guide to living luxuriously in London to a
front row seat to being a model at New York Fashion Week.
Overall this issue is for the women who feel sexy in their
own skin, have standards as high as their heels and with
the right corset are ready to conquer the world. Forget
diamonds, Monroe is the best friend a girl could ask for.

Love,

returns, yet it defines a whole new generation and this time in
all the right places.

No longer synonymous with hyper sexualized femininity that

is for the male only, the corset has returned in the height of
post-feminism, in an era in which women accentuate the
female form to be sexualized by themselves for themselves.
The modern take on the dated trend, has become symbolic
of what Rosalind Gill defines as a notion of choice for
women. She implies that in our post-feminist era of porno
chic, social sharing of nudity and artificially constructed
bodies the idea of choice has become a postfeminist
mantra. This has been picked up on the catwalk as corsets
have been reinvented throughout the years, leading us to
want to undress the timeless trend and its history.

Once paired alongside a blush cone bra in 1990, Jean Paul

Gautier brought corsets to the forefront on Madonnas
Blond Ambition Tour. This introduced Madonna as a sex
radical bringing subversive sexuality into popular culture
and the mainstream. She quite literally transformed the
corset connotation of a male orientated ideal and made it
her own as she iconized the corset as a symbol of sexual
empowerment. The corset quintessentially became a staple
for Gautier, leading to the structured corset silhouette being
emulated on his sculptured perfume bottle for decades.

In turn, most significantly in the Eighties and Nighties

Thierry Mugler molded waist defining garments that were
quite literally out of this world with latex fabrication and
cupped bodices bordering on bondage.
The Victoria and Albert Museum who most recently held
a lingerie exhibition which included world famous corsets
implied that Gaultier and Muglers armour-like corsets
epitomised power fashion and the cult of the body with
their architectural-meets-anatomical designs. Most
notably it was Muglers work with the legendary Mr. Pearl
that became his most iconic works of art. Mr. Pearl has
become known as fashions most famous corsetier, working
alongside not only Mugler but Alexander McQueen and
John Galliano to name a few. It wasnt only his sculpted
bodices that earned him his title but his very own eighteen-

Some Like It Pop:
The Power Of Paris
Before the origination of social media, the reality TV takeover and way before the term
squad goals surfaced, there was only one It-Girl who put the juicy into couture: Miss Paris
Hilton. As the original page six party girl and reality TV star she is eminently an icon of
our past generation within popular culture. Yet as we approach a new one, we meet a very
different Paris, far way from the blonde bombshell of the noughties who made scandal her
middle name. She has since replaced bars for the boardroom, as she is the owner of her own
eponymous empire. With 19 product lines, 21 fragrances, her own chain of hotels and 60 stores
worldwide, the socialite has certainly defied the dumb blonde stereotype as she most recently
was acknowledged as a better business woman than President Donald Trump. As we paint the
town pink (not the white-house, just yet) and sit down with the heiress, we take a peek inside
Pariss perfect world, discussing her iconic stature, impressive entrepreneurship skills and the
movement of girl power. Welcome to Paris

Top Pretty &
Pink Places In
The World
With pink quickly becoming one of this seasons must-have colours, from Valentino
to Celine making a vibrant splash on the catwalk, we have decided to think pink
and picked our top pink places to visit worldwide. We have selected one perfectly
pink place from each continent in the world, excluding Antarctica (If only there was
such a thing as pink ice!) From a presidential palace to a trendy rooftop bar, a chic
restaurant and even a lake, yes you heard that right a PINK lake! Overall the rose
quartz tinted tones and fifty shades of fuchsia have well and truly taken over leaving
us saying a new edition of the catchphrase Thats Hot Pink.

North America:
Pietro Nolita
174 ELIZABETH STREET, NEW YORK, NY 10012
At first glance, the New York 50s style bar and eatery is every girls dream. As
a pink palace, it is sure to become a top-pick for the fashion elite during the
NYFW calendar and with only twenty-eight seats; it is set to be the height of
exclusivity. With pastel hues in every nook and cranny it could have been de-
signed by Greases iconic pink ladies themselves. With cuisine as exquisite as
the backdrop, from their famous pink cocktails to their specialty pink tiramisu
and the icing on the cake being that it is a healthy Italian, (yes there is such a
thing!) you most definitely will be not want to say ciao to this Italian gem in
the crown of Manhattan.

South America:
La Casa Rosada
Balcarce 50, 1064 Buenos Aires, Argentina
Pietro Nolita
Translated in English as the pink house, La Casa Rosada is the pink pal-
ace of your fantasies. It is in fact the presidential palace to be precise as the
tourist attraction is the mansion housing the president of Argentina, (can we
please paint the white house pink too?). The building is simply striking from
its luxurious grand columns to its romantic balcony that would not look out
of place in a storybook. The peachy palace hits the pink trifecta on those hot
Argentinan nights as neon cerise lights paint the town. Enriched in history
the monument includes the presidential podium where Evita famously gave
her speech and Madonna iconically imitated the figure in the same spot in the
film Evita. Enter the grounds of the pastel palace and become immersed in
its history in the museum and tours it offers which are unmissable, just like its
breath-taking exterior.

Asia:
Hitsujiyama park,
Japan, 368-0023 Saitama Prefecture, Chichibu, Omiya, 6360

If youre feeling blue this summer, you should certainly visit Chichibu in Ja-
pan to pick you up and pink you up.
With a pallet of blush and pastel hues blossoming across the fields, the Hitsuji-
yama Park is the closest thing to a natural pink paradise. Forget the red carpet
of Hollywood and walk through an au naturel pink carpet of the countries
infamous shibazakura pink moss. The blooming season is from late April to
early May and is a significant tourist attraction. The sight is spectacular as the
hundreds and thousands of Shibazakura owers create patterns that are more
than just pretty and pink as it is a view that is out of this world.

Oceana
Lake Hiller
Australia

Although we have already dived into the phenomenon of the pink

lake, we couldnt only choose one as Western Australia beholds a
bubble-gum pink lake of the sweetest kind. It is so extraordinary that
is simply has to be seen to be believed and the perfect view to ex-
perience this is through a scenic helicopter ight that over look the
spectacular attraction. The lake is 600 metres in length by about 250
metres in width and is permanently pink. Make a splash down under
this summer and visit one of its famous pink hued lakes.

Africa:
Lac Rose Senegal
Lake Retba, Dakar,
The word pink and lake most certainly dont go together and you may think
that this image is a trick of the eye but in actuality the pink lake is a global
natural phenomenon. It just happens that Senegals lake Retba is the perfect Franks Rooftop Bar
milkshake shade and with the sun making rays, it would only seem right to
sink in pink. The lake is only 3 square kilometers big but is one of our new
additions to the wonders of the world and is to many worldwide as it has
become famous for drawing local tourists and possibly Barbie mermaids, (you
never know!). Who knew pink lakes could even exist? Dip your toe into new
experiences and be sure to co-ordinate and pack pink on your travels to the
legendary lake.

Europe:
Franks rooftop bar
10TH FLOOR, PECKHAM MULTI-STORY CARPARK 95A RYE LANE, LONDON
SE15 4ST

With a rooftop view of the London skyline, Franks caf has become a firm
favorite for the stylish squad of the South. The selling point is not only the
restaurant/ bar itself and its effortless vibe but in fact the winding staircase to
heaven- pink heaven that is. The entire entrance towards the agship archi-
tectural commission of bold tendencies is coated in the hottest hue of pink
that would make Barbies wardrobe look understated. The work of Bold ten-
dencies as a summertime art project and has become part of the international Photography: Lucy Fuller
exhibition calendar, with over half a million visitors, you should therefore

think pink and not give this place a miss.
