Air conditioners perform two basic function which is heat removal and moisture

removal. The lower the humidity, the more comfortable we will feel at a given
temperature. Air conditioners often use a fan to distribute the conditioned air to an
occupied space such as a building or a car to improve thermal comfort and indoor
air quality. The higher the flow rate of air, the higher amount of heat transfer. In
other word, the rate of heat transfer is directly proportional to the mass flow rate.

The air conditioning lab experiment is conducted with a Hilton Air Conditioning
Laboratory Unit (Model A573). Model A573 is a model use to demonstrate various
stages of the air-conditioning process. Thermometer and pressure gauge are
important in this experiment so the experimental data can be obtained to determine
thermodynamic states for refrigerant and moist air throughout the unit. For this
experiment, this project was done to identify the enthalpy from P-h diagram and
humidity from psychrometric chart. This was accomplished by collecting the
reading of thermometer for dry and wet bulb for every fan speed increases and also
the reading of pressure gauge. When the fan speed increase, it increase the air flow
of the air in the system which increase the amount of heat transfer causes both dry
and wet bulb temperature increase. The relationship of wet bulb and dry bulb are
drawn to find the enthalpy to allow calculation of coefficient of performance
(COP). A rule of thumb is that the COP improves by 2-4 percent for each celcius
degree the evaporating temperature raised or condensing temperature is lowered.
