Ihave gotten to know Whitney over the past semester as she has completed her student teaching at Forest Charter School. She is dedicated and passionate about educating students. ‘As soon as Whitney began her student teaching I could see that developing relationships with her students was important to her. She has a self-deprecating way of using humor that her students really respond to. She has put in endless hours working with students who have missed class duet illness and multiple snow days. ‘She truly cares that they feel successful and understand the material and she’s willing to sacrifice her own time to ake this happen Being an effective and engaging teacher in 2017 often mears teaching ina 1:1 classroom which requites in-depth knowledge of technological tools beyond ihe standard graphing calculator. Forest Charter School is 1:1 with Chromebooks and Whitney quickly became adept at using tools like Desmos and Kahoot inthe classroom, much to her student's delight. Behind the scenes, Whitney was also quickly leaming how to navigate the online textbook as well as our school’s learning management system, ‘Due to Forest Charter’s college-ke schedule, Whitney taught four classes at FCS on ‘Monday/Wedaesdays and then taught a 17-minute remedial algebra class at Incline High ‘School the est ofthe week. This exposed her to different types of traditional and non- traditional scheduling and pacing. Whitney juggled these different schedules and different ‘supervising teachers with grace. She showed that she certainly has te time management skills ‘required to handle anything that a busy teaching day ean throw at a new teacher. have full confidence in Whitney's ability to manage her own classroom, she is incredibly intelligent, capable, and caring.
