Instructor Preparation

Come to class early to set up PowerPoint and ensure the YouTube video opens up without
problems

Teaching/Learning Activities

5 minute warm-up
1. Write Food Safety on the whiteboard.

2. Prompt students on What does food safety mean to you?

If students are outgoing have them shout out answers or all freely come up to the
board and write one thing.
If students are more shy have them discuss with their neighbor what they think of
food safety.
o After that, have them come up to the board and write their answers or call
on the pairs to give an answer.

5 minutes
1. Have students take out a piece of paper and write down any words
they hear that they are not familiar with.
2. Watch Basic Food Safety for Oregon: Chapter 1 "The Importance of Food Safety"
(English) on YouTube. (Or find one for the specific state/area the class is in)

5 minutes
1. Go over any vocabulary the students had trouble understanding from the video.
a. Give example sentences that include that vocabulary word. Have students draw a
picture to represent each vocabulary word they had trouble with.
