OSPF design terminologies

(1). ABR(Area Border Router)

(2). ASBR(Autonomous System Border Router)
LSA(link State Advertisement)

Types of LSAs :-

(1). Type 1 LSA(Router LSA)

(2). Type 2 LSA(Network LSA)
(3). Type 3 LSA(Network Summary LSA)
(5). Type 4 LSA(ASBR summary LSA)
(5). Type 5 LSA(External LSA)
(6). Type 6 LSA(NSSA External LSA)
Type 1 LSA
This type os LSAs is commonly known as
router LSA.
Every single router in an area generate this
type of LSA.
Router LSA lists RID & all interfaces IP
address int that particular area.
These type of LSAs only flooded within its
own area of origin.
Type 2 LSA
Type 2 LSAs are generated per transit network.
These types of LSAs are created by the DR on
the subnet.
This type of LSA represent the subnets & the
router interfaces connected to the subnet.
These types of LSAs only flooded only within
its area of origin.
Type 3 LSA
Type 3 LSAs are also known as Network Summary
LSA.
This type of LSA is created by ABRs(Area Border
Router).
It represents networks present in one area when
being advertised into another area.
It defines the subnets int the origin area & cost, but
no topology data.
Flooded only within its area of origin.
Type 4 LSA
Type 4 LSAs are ASBR summary LSA.
This LSA advertise a host route to reach on
ASBR.
Flooded within its area of origin and it is
reoriginated on ABR.
Type 5 LSA
These LSAs are generated by ASBRs for
external routes injected into OSPF.
Type 5 LSAs are flooded to all areas.
