Dear Judges:

My name is Elizabeth Thornell and I am a junior in high school. So far in my high school career,

I have been challenging myself academically and I strive to enter college with some credit hours

already completed. I have completed and will continue to take AP classes in order to prepare

myself for college. In addition, I have been taking healthcare related classes because that is the

field I am interested in studying in college. I aspire to major in pre-medical studies and attend

graduate school to obtain my doctorate degree.

I chose my topic of neurology because I am particularly interested in the brain and how it works.

I am also interested in potentially becoming a neuroradiologist. In relation to my service hours, I

wanted to interview people struggling with different neurological impairments whether

psychological or physiological. Though I may change my mind in college, I am sure that I want

to study the brain. Therefore, I chose neurology as my topic because it is something I am

interested in and passionate to learn about.

During the Senior Exploration process, I was interested in researching my topic and learning

some basics about my potential career future. The only obstacles I faced during this process was
figuring out how to relate it to service hours when I was unable to shadow a neuroradiologist at

the local hospital. However, I was able to accomplish this task by interviewing people suffering

from psychological disorders, such as depression and anxiety, and relate it to the physical aspect

of brain chemistry to study how mental illness is affected by it. This project has prepared me for

college and has shown me that I am still interested in pursuing a career in neurology.

Thank you for participating in the Senior Exploration project. Your willingness to share your

time to listen to something I am passionate about is greatly appreciated and your support is

beneficial to my expression of said enthusiasm about neurology.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Thornell
