Reflection:
1. Why did you select this project?
When I was teaching classes (before I started doing my unit) I noticed that I had a hard time
keeping up with the more advanced students. These students would finish a lesson early and end up
waiting around for me to tell that what to do next. Often times I couldnt have them move on to the
next lesson because I didnt have the materials ready. I talked about this with my mentor and he
suggested this idea, which I thought would work great.

2. What did you learn by doing this project?


This project helped me realize how much work it is (initially) to run a classroom where students
can move at their own pace. It requires you to prepare and organize materials and printouts really far in
advance. After the initial work is done this becomes very low maintenance and helps you focus on the
struggling students more (as you can have the faster students move on as they finish).

3. Did you have to make adjustments as the project progressed? Why and how?
There werent many adjustments that I needed to make as my project progressed.

4. To what extent did your project act as a service?


Myprojectservedasaprettystrongserviceactformymentorteacher.Nowthatthesematerialsare
allorganizedhecangivethestudentsmoreautonomywhenhedoesalesson.Italsoallowshimtogive
thestudentswhostrugglemoreattention.Thatbeingsaidthisprojectdoesntextendmuchbeyondmy
mentorsclassroom,exceptthatitmaygetotherteacherstodothisintheirclassroom.

5. Whatweretheareasthatwerelessthancompletelysuccessful?Whatfurtheractions
shouldbetaken?
Theleastsuccessfulpartofmyprojectwasthelabactivities.Iwasabletoorganizemostofthe
classmaterialsbutIcouldntdothiswiththewetlabs.Thechemicalsthattheselabsusehavetobe
keptinthechemicalstorageroomsoIcouldntputtheminmyorganizedboxes.Thisalsomeansthatif
astudentfinishestheactivitybeforealabactivity,theycantmoveon.Thereisntaneasyfixtothis
issueotherthanpreparingthematerialsaheadofscheduleandkeepingtheminafumehoodorsimilar
safelocation.
