Personal Finance
Personal Finance
By Lily Rafferty
Introduction
My personal Finance Module Project
requires me to book a 7 night skiing
holiday for myself and a Friend . My
friend and I are age 28 and have both
skied several times . Our budget is
3000 which must include everything
We will Drive to Dublin airport - we
Step 1 - have booked a parking space at the
blue Longterm Car Park at a cost of
Getting to the 29. This is cheaper than going on the
air coach and gives us greater
airport independence. We book online with our
credit card
Step 2 - Booking We will book flights to
Barcelona Airport as we have
Flights
chosen the resort of ALP2500-
160 Kms north in the Pyrenees.
After researching different options renting a car was the most convenient so we
booked a Ford Fiesta online with Goldcar. It is an economical car getting 100km
for 5.4 litres of Petrol. The drive to La Molina where we will stay is 160km - the
petrol tank will be full when we receive the car and we must leave it back full. If
we take a trip from La Molina to the local town of Puigcerd during our stay we
calculate that we will drive a maximum of 400kms - so we will budget for 25.00 to
refill the tank assuming a rate of 1.17/litres for petrol.
Step 4 - Booking
Accommodation
We chose the town of La Molina as it is linked with La Masella Creating Alp 2500
with 141kms of runs. La Molina is a bigger town so we looked for
accommodation here and chose The Solineu Hotel as it has - free parking, free
wifi, onsite ski lockers also free and is a short walk from the ski lifts. We chose
the half board rate as it was very good value and reviewed well on various
websites.
The slopes are very quiet during the week with no lift queues as a lot of skiers
just come up at the weekend from Barcelona
Step 5 - Lift Passes
Lift passes in the Pyrenees are a lot cheaper than the Alps so we book 2, six day
passes on the official Alp2500 website at a cost of 160 each. These passes give
us access to 22 green runs, 40 blue runs, 39 red runs and 16 black runs which is
plenty to keep us going for 6 days. We also purchased Private skiing lessons.
Step 6 - ski equipment
We have researched this online and found Skiset have a rental shop right beside
the lifts so we book our skis, boots, poles and helmets on their website. We choose
the performance pack which will give us high performance equipment allowing us to
take full advantage of the ski area. We pay online with our credit card.
