One hot summer Saturday afternoon, an energetic six-year-
old named Massy had an idea to round up the kids on our
cul-de-sac and hold a lemonade stand. My daughter eagerly
ran outside to join in. The kids stirred up lemonade, drew and
posted signs, and toted out Massys card table and lawn chairs
to the grassy patch at the end of the street. Soon, shouts of
LEMONADE FOR SALE!! were echoing for blocks. The group
of them jumped, hollered, and sold their icy refreshments all
afternoon. At one point, a couple of the older kids headed
home to bake muffins, then returned to the stand and sold
those too. By dinnertime, the kids were exhausted and proud,
having collaborated on a successful lemonade stand that not
