Standard #3 Learning Environment

The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and
collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active
engagement in learning, and self-motivation.

Interpretation

I understand that I will need to set-up my classroom in such a way that all students
understand rules and expectations for them as individuals and as a class. Routines will
be established to help students succeed. The physical setup of my classroom will allow
for accessibility. Students will have opportunities to express themselves individually and
in group work. As a teacher, I will provide students with support, positive reinforcement,
and a safe environment to foster cooperation, collaboration, development, and
independent critical thinking.

Reflection on the Standard

I choose to include these artifacts because I feel they demonstrate some of the
classroom organization and rules that can attribute to the safety of the classroom for all
students. The strategies I need to help my students feel like they are in a safe learning
environment are included to show that I understand what I need to do as a teacher to
bring out the best in my students and work with their families.
