Whether we stop to think about it or

sTRAnDmOn wing chair and footstool

012
Available November 2
The new sTRAnDmOn wing chair and footstool is a tribute to our favourite IKeA
wingback the mK chair that sold during the early 50s and was on the 1951
IKeA catalogue cover. On the cover of this years catalogue, too, the mK chair is
a personal favourite of founder Ingvar Kamprad (its his chair on the 2013 cover)
and has provided a comfortable, durable and timeless place to unwind, read,
watch Tv and come together. now its time for sTRAnDmOn to make a better
everyday life at home and keep tradition alive.

The sTRAnDmOn armchair may look like the mK chair, but it uses modern
materials and construction techniques that meet todays tougher quality
standards. Like the arms and wings we tested those to ensure they will hold
up to todays uses like children lying across the chair and adults leaning on the
wings. By removing the neck pillow and thinning out the legs, the form is more
modern, too. And the comforts even better since the high, slightly indented back
provides extra support and the new matching footstool lets you put your feet
up for full relaxation.

Ready for decades of comfort and good company, sTRAnDmOn has a style that
blends in just as easily as it can stand out with eye-catching cushions and throws.

Ingvar Kamprads own mK chair is

shown on the cover of this years IKeA
catalogue, with added life from a
modern cushion.
BRINGING BACK A
FAVOURITE
A history of the MK chair

The 50s was the heyday of the wing chair. To

be a part of bringing wing chairs into Swedish
homes, Ingvar Kamprad asked a local furniture
manufacturer near lmhult, Sweden (where
IKEA has its origins and where much of the
companys activities are still located) to make a
really good wing chair that more people would
be able to afford.

The chair, named MK, was considered,

in St. Eriks Fair, which was the equivalent to

it was one of the pieces shown in 1952 in the
local furniture store ELFSs showroom in lmhult

LAPPLJUNG textiles

In creating the new LAPPLJUNG textile collection of rugs, cushions, curtains, quilt
co er and more we wanted it to be definitel b t in a t le t at drew more
from global in ence andmade tradition and grap ic pattern . For in piration
we turned to the Muse de lImpression sur toffes in Mulhouse, France where
textile patterns from different periods and places are collected and can be
licensed for a limited time.

We asked them to look for patterns of African origin, so we could match them to
a few piece and idea we alread ad like a Moroccan-in pired r g drawn b
designer Anna Efverlund. Plus, we had a sketch of a bird for a cushion and a few
blankets and metre fabrics in the range that we wanted to keep. But we needed a
pattern that would unite all the parts into a collection.

One particular woodblock pattern, full of irregularity and liveliness, caught our
attention. The pattern was scanned into the computer to experiment with size,
scale, colours and combinations until we arrived at a unique pattern for IKEA,
based on an authentic motif from Africa. NGENAM bowl, dish and vase The new LAPPLJUNG textile collection includes graphic
patterns for cushions, rugs, curtains, metre fabric, duvet
covers and pillowcases.

heKTAR lamps add an oversized, vintage

and industrial feel with floor, pendant and
wall/clamp spotlight versions. The floor lamp
stands 180 cm tall and the bigger pendant
lamp has a 47 cm diameter. Designer Ola
Wihlborg was assigned to make a clamp
spotlight, but was so inspired by bistros,
theatre stages and old factories of a bygone
era that he just kept going.

pe308131
I started by designing the spotlight and liked
the way it turned out, Ola says. The simple
metal form with the matt finish really stood

design that would fit in both traditional and
modern settings and found inspiration in
timeless geometric forms.

Knut and marianne are equally inspired by

its production. It takes enormous skills for
the glassblowers to make FYLLIG vase, the
siblings say. They stand in a line like rock

When we designed TIDNY we wanted to make

a fabric that people could have fun with and

drawing a fantasy landscape, with only black

match the colours in your room or to bring out a
theme in the pattern. But you can also use it just
