Gas Laws

Objectives:
1. Describe the kinetic molecular theory and the differences between
ideal and real gases.
2. List the values for standard temperature in celsius and Kelvin scales
and the values for standard pressure in mmHg, atmospheres, and
kilopascals.
3. State the relationship between the pressure of a gas and the
volume of a gas.
4. Write the equation for and apply Boyles Law in solving problems
and the conditions under which Boyles Law can be used.
5. State the relationship between the temperature of a gas and the
volume of a gas.
6. Write the equation for and apply Charles Law in solving problems
and the conditions under which Charles Law can be used.
7. State the relationship between the temperature of a gas and the
pressure of a gas.
8. Write the equation for and apply the Gay-Lussacs Law in solving
problems and the conditions under which it can be used.
9. Apply the combined Gas Law in working problems.
10. State Avogadros Principle.
11. State Daltons Law of Partial Pressures and apply it in working
problems in which the percentage composition of a mixture of gases is
unknown.
12. Correct the pressure of a certain volume of gas when it is collected
over water or when it is known to be saturated with water vapor.
13. Apply Grahams law to calculate the molar mass of a gas or to
calculate the ratio of the velocities of two gases if they are at the same
temperature.
14. Solve problems involving the ideal gas equation.
