Currently attending the Faculty of

Science at Charles University, Jan Rejek is

working towards his PhD in the field of
analytical chemistry. Jan realized his love of
chemistry in primary school when he
discovered that he had a natural inclination
and talent in the subject.
Jan found himself at IOCB based on
the intrigue of the Mass Spectrometry project
that he is currently working on. It was an
added bonus for the position to be in a lab at
the Institute. The specific project is called
ambient mass spectrometry and it is headed
by Josef Cvaka. Jan was particularly
attracted to this as a result of its practicality
and how it could easily be applied to many
branches of science. The same goes for his
love of analytical chemistry.
Unsure of where he will end up down
the road and with this being the last year of
his PhD study, Jan is happy to be studying
such an applicable science. Whether he
decides to
work in the lab at an academic institution, a hospital or a veterinary clinic, his strong background
in science and routine analytics will make him the man for the job.
The lab is not the only place where Jan uses his skills. He also often finds himself on
the pitch, playing both outdoor football and futsal in his spare time. Jan has played football since
he was nine years old and still finds himself playing at least twice a week. He used to play more
but since getting married he has other priorities. In addition, Jan is very involved in his church
community; both as a member of the organization team and a few Youth People Groups.
