Robb and Brienne Stark are a newlywed couple that live casual,
yet busy lives. Robb is a local musician, and Brienne is a freelance
photographer, which makes sticking close to home pretty easy.
With no kids, their hobbies include traveling and photography and
Client Profile a record collection. While being a modest family, there style leans
more towards modern and Scandinavian taste. They want to think
about the future and having a kid, but right now they want to
focus on their careers and just enjoy their time together.
I believe that building 2 was created to be a second empire style.
Architectural The darker color of the brick is the same as was in that time
period. Another key aspect is the windows and columns, they are
Style repetitive and created in the same style as those of the second
empire.
The intended design of the home is to be cool and contemporary,
with subtle hints of bold colors. The design is to have a
Concept Scandinavian style, modern but comfortable. The design will go
Statement with a cool color palette, with the use of grays and purples and
blues. There will be lots of minimalistic furniture styles, with
plenty of room for other pieces the client enjoys.
The color palette consists of
cool colors and is an
Analogous color scheme.
There are a few muted colors
as well as some that create
more of a bold statement.
Color Palette I changed the blues and
green colors to be more
muted and calm, and the
purples to be more bold. The
white was changed to be a
grey to stay consistent with
the calm colors.

408.2 Life Safety Hazards This code shall only apply to Historic buildings judged by building officials, thus
this code shall not be used on the building.
Building 602.1 Existing Building Materials Materials already being used that are approved are able to remain. Thus, the
Elements and building materials are able to stay in the building.
Materials
602.2 New and Replacement Materials Materials permitted by the applicable code for new work can be used. Similar
materials can be used for for repairs and alterations. They can be used for the
building.
Electrical 602.3 Glazing in Hazardous Material Replacement Glazing will be permitted in hazardous locations if complying with
the safety glazing requirments.
607.1.2 Plug Fuses Plug fuses shall only be used for replacements where there is no evidence of over
fusing. Thus the building might need this code.
607.1.2 Receptacles Replacement of receptacles must comply with the applicable requirments of
Section 406.4. This maybe used for the building.
607.1.5 Grounding of Appliances Frames of appliances and outlet or junction boxes that are part of an existing
Energy branch circuit for the appliances is permitted to be grounded to the circuit
Conservation conductor.
708.1 Minimum Requirements Level 1 alterations to existing buildings or structures are permitted without
requiring the entire building to comply with energy requirements of International
Energy Conservation Codes.
811.1 Minimun Requirements Level 2 alterations to existing buildings or structures are permitted without
requiring the entire building to comply with energy requirements of International
Energy Conservation Codes.
Part II: Discussion Topic Discuss how important codes are in residential design. Explain how
knowing this information will specifically advance your future application
of code factors while designing. Provide at least two examples.
From an outside perspective, residential design may seem like the easier to comply with, in regards to codes, compared to
commercial design. In many ways, though, residential design can be more complex in the codes to follow. This is someones
personal space, their sanctuary. For everyone involved, it is their responsibility to comply to these codes in order for the occupants
to have the safest possible space. Being able to retain even a fraction of the information contained within all of these codes will
make for a much easier job when it comes to complying to said codes. Having a firm foundation from which to draw information
can make the designing process for residential spaces go much more smoothly. By nature, building codes are quite universal as
they apply to everyone working on the job. This includes architects, contractors, and all other people involved in the building
process, but theyre also used by tenants, insurance companies, environmental scientists, and various other parties (Interior Design
Building Code Basics). Being able to speak to and apply to all of these parties, building codes tend to be detailed and
complicated.
Having an organization like the International Code Council gives the client peace of mind. Furthermore, it levels the plane
field for everyone in the industry. This is the language that all professionals involved in the residential design process could speak
and comply with. Most people may think that the design process is simple with the use of common sense, but it is more than that.
Every day there is great improvement in our technology. It is important to revise these codes and regulations every 3
years because as materials quality improve, also appliances evolve and we can increase our quality of life and the safety of our
clients. Abiding by these codes also brings a comfort to the client in knowing that their home is a safe place to be. Knowing these
codes prior to starting a project can save the designer time, money, and frustrations. Examples of this knowledge coming into play
include electrical outlets and the minimum lighting in every room such as the placement of a ground fault circuit interruption
required by NPFA 70. Knowing of these requirements aids in furniture placement and easily accessible outlets while also balancing
design ideal. Another example of the importance of code knowledge involves energy conservation. Interior designers can play a
huge role in helping to conserve energy in a space. Something as simple as installing energy efficient windows to keep heat and
air from escaping through cracks can aid in energy conservation. Energy efficient appliances are also available for installation. All of
which will ultimately make the client even more happy with a lower than average electrical bill.
