Application for grant aid funding in last 3 years.

We applied for a grant in 2010 for 173,000 from the

LTA for the building of an air hall to cover 2 non-turf tennis
courts during the period September to April of each year.
The grant was successful.

owned by the company.

The project The project is to build a brand new squash court on the
end of the existing court 3, to give the club 4 squash courts
and making all the courts glass back.
Building a new court we have drawn up plans to have great
viewing gallery for court 2, court 3 and the new court 4.
In doing this we are hoping to build brand new changing
rooms that sit behind and under the setting area.
Need The squash & racketball section comprises of 120 plus
members which all use the 3 courts on a regular basis.
Every Tuesday the courts are used between 4 squash
teams, in 4 different divisions in the Kent league, also some
teams play every other Wednesday. On top of the busy
weekly rotation, the ladies team play in the Kent league
every 3 weeks on a Thursday. And believe it or not we also
find space to play a racketball team in the racketball Kent
league around every 3 weeks on a Wednesday. So as you
can see that there is a big need for a new court or even two
new courts.
Not just because we have a great number of teams who
play at BCC, but the club are very eager to host a number
of tournaments to get our club known in the country i.e.
- BCC Graded squash Open tournament, Kent Squash
Closed & Open, Kent Squash Doubles Open, Racketball
Kent Closed and all the internal championships.
During the weekdays we have around 3 local schools that
use our squash courts.
Target groups The main users for the new court would of course be for
all members, but its also to attract mainly new members,
especially juniors. We are trying to build a club where all
juniors want to be and train, but with having no glass backs
and only two viewing galleries its very differcult to do this.
Having the new court we would be able to have two teams playing
at once, meaning that there would be 4 teams on one night and
making the club a more vibrant place to be. This would attract
more people to come and support their teams.

Community use As mentioned in the Needs section we have 3 schools
that use our grounds during term, Redhill, Scotts Park,
and St Josephs. These schools use our squash courts
every week and hopefully with the new court, we would
be able to approach more local schools to come and test
their skills. The schools also get to use our cricket grounds
during the winter seasons.
As we speak we are hopefully trying to get the cub & scout
group 14th Bromley Scouts, to come and use our courts, so
this will encourage more children to play squash & racketball.
The Club Background The club was formed in 1820. The club moved to its present
ground in 1886 and a year later a tennis section was
formed. The club is multi sport playing squash, racketball,
cricket, lacrosse and tennis. Other activities conducted
include aerobics, baby ballet dance, boot camp, bridge,
pilates, summer and Easter camps for cricket and tennis.
In 2010 the club became a Company limited by guarantee.
Teams BCC consists of 4 mens squash teams, the 1st team playing
in the top division and have been for many years. Luckily
enough to pull in some great players all over Kent. The 2nd &
3rd teams have been playing in and out of the 2nd, 3rd & 4th
divisions. This year is the first year that BCC have entered a
4th team as the demand for our members to represent
their club is growing.
We have a womens team who play in the womens Kent
league that consist of around 7 to 8 dedicated players and
always on the look out for the next Laura Massaro.
We also have a BCC racketball team that plays in the
racketball Kent league and have been increasing in strength
year by year.
Members We have 120 plus squash & racketball members and over
850 members over all the sports plus the social members.
We are very lucky that our membership increases every year.

If you look at the overhead shot opposite,

youll see the yellow dotted lines which
shows you the main building. To the right
of the club is where the squash courts
are located (In pink). At present there are
ct1
ct2 ct3 3 courts, but only two of them have
viewing galleries (see below).
You can see that Bromley Cricket Club
offers 6 rubber tennis courts, which two
of them are in a covered dome during the
winter. 2 junior courts and 6 glass courts.
4 teams, plus the colts and which the 1st
team is one of the best in the country
use the cricket pitch, which has won best
cricket grounds a number of times. During
the winter the grounds are also used for the
local schools, as well as lacrosse.

As you can see by the overhead shot, the

new proposed 4th court has been added to
the end of the club.
We are also hoping to build a wheelchair lift
ct1 access next to the new court, as we have
ct2 ct3 ct4 a number of elderly members who come
and support.

the new 4th court will go. As you
can see on the drawing, we have
made all 4 courts glass back for
perfect viewing. We will be adding
an external wheelchair lift for the
disabled and elderly. There is a
squash seating gallery and new
changing rooms behind
the courts.

area behind the courts as well
as the gym/conference room
and W/C. The wheelchair lift will
go from the ground floor to the
1st, which will give them access
to the bar and the rest of the
club house.

Drawings & sketches

The sketch below is the same image oppsite, but this drawing
has had a function room added to the top of the squash
courts, just another idea the committee have come up with.

The drawing above shows the idea what the committee

have for the club. Its not just a new court we want to build,
but to extend the whole club to make it one of the best
clubs in the borough.
Building the new court at the end is what we hope it will look
like (see pink lines).
