While she has enjoyed this work, she now aspires to become an assistant principal in order to coach and develop teachers as an administrator. She believes experience as a coach is necessary for administrators to effectively shift teachers' practices under the new Texas appraisal system. As an assistant principal, she hopes to learn from a visionary principal how to organize and lead a school, with the ultimate goal of opening a community school similar to the promise network model where the school is at the center of empowering families and the community.

    CAREER GOALS 2

    Over the last four years, I have served as a literacy specialist in grades ranging from

    pre-kinder to eighth grade. I have worked with new and veteran teachers to help improve

    instructional practices to impact student achievement. I have thoroughly enjoined this work

    given the positive impact I have had on teachers and students alike. However, I aspire to be an

    assistant principal in the near future because I believe we need more administrators who are

    content experts and coaches. The Texas appraisal tool is now a coaching tool to help teachers

    move from developing to accomplished. It is necessary for administrators to have coaching

    experience to effectively move teachers practices and shift paradigms, if necessary. As an

    assistant principal, I hope to have the opportunity to work with an exceptional, visionary of a

    principal to learn how to effectively organize and lead a school. With this knowledge and hands-

    on practice, I plan to build a community school much like the promise network. I truly believe

    the schoolhouse should be at the center of a community and it is through the school, families

    receive services and opportunities for empowerment.
