Read the passage below carefully and answer the questions that follow.
Once, there was an old owl that lived in a forest. She slept in the day and
hunted for food at night.
One sunny day, a grasshopper came along and started singing. The owl
could not sleep because of the noise.
Go away! I am trying to sleep, she said.
I wont. The forest does not belong to you, the grasshopper answered.
The old owl realized that the grasshopper could move very fast. She also
knew that she could not see well in the daytime. So, she would not be able to
catch the grasshopper.
You sing so well, she said. Before you continue singing, please come up
here and taste this drink. The nightingale gave it to me and said that it helped
her to sing beautifully.
The grasshopper was proud that the grasshopper liked his singing. He also

Sigaram 3 Paper 1
Read the diary below and answer the questions that follow.
Dear diary,
I am very happy today. I walked out of my class, 6 Bairavi. My class monitor and
some of my classmates helped me when the bullies were teasing me. One of
the bullies pulled at my crutches. The other two girls jeered and laughed at me.
Stop it! Stop bullying her or we will tell our teacher, my friends shouted.
Although the girls stared fiercely at us, we were not afraid. After a few minutes,
they walked away. I thanked my friends and we walked to the canteen
together.
I am glad the day ended well. Im going to tell my parents about the bullies
later this evening.
Love,
Eeswary

Study the table and read the dialogue below. Answer the questions that follow.
Stuff Duration
Teacher : Can you remember the items that can decompose easily
and which cannot?
Rina : Banana peel and tissue paper decompose easily.
Navid : Aluminium cans cannot decompose, teacher.
Alice : My father says aluminium cans are non-biodegradable and we
should recycle them.
Teacher : Your father is right, Alice. Everyone should practice recycling for
both biodegradable and non-biodegradable things.
Bee Xin : Teacher, I know about the 3Rs of recycling. They are reduce,
reuse and recycle.
Teacher : Do you know what each of these terms means?
Laili : Reduce means we use less of something like paper by writing
on both sides.
Benny : To reuse means we use something over many times. We can reuse
glass bottles after cleaning and washing them to store food.
Rajiv : When we recycle, we change the form of a thing to make it into
something new. We recycle waste like orange peels to turn them
into enzymes for washing our dishes and floor.
Teacher : What can you learn from our lesson today?
Nathan : We must take care of our environment by recycling.
Teacher : We cannot stop waste production but we can reduce the
amount we throw away. Think before you throw.
