INTENTIONS FOR LEARNING

This experience is planned to aid the children in communicating and/or acting in response to
language in increasingly complex ways. The childrens communication develops from nonverbal
communication to using language with increasingly complex words or sentences. The children
engage in back and forth communication that develops into increasingly extended conversations.

Objectives: What specific and observable concepts or skills will the child learn, explore, or
discover? The child will be able to List the Preschool DRDP Measure(s) or Infant/Toddler

TCWBAT carry out multi-step requests that involve a familiar activity or situation.

EXPERIENCE PLAN
Activity Description:

I will be in charge of the morning meeting with the children. I will do the set-up by placing their
mats on the floor, choosing who sits where and putting their name tags out. We will read the
morning message together, which details the name of the group (Dragonflies), the day of the
week, the date and what we will be doing throughout the day. Then we will sing a song together
that uses sign language to talk about their breakfasts.

Good morning ____, how are you? What did you eat for breakfast?
Invitational Set-up: How will the experience be presented to invite participation or provoke
interest? (Provide a photograph of the set-up).

I will speak to the children at the beginning of the morning meeting and tell them that this is my
first time doing the morning meeting and asking if they wouldnt mind helping me with the
breakfast song.

Specific vocabulary, teaching strategies, and open-ended questions you will keep in mind
(Using your textbook and/or Curriculum Frameworks, list specific ways you will promote
problem-solving and critical thinking beyond a simple recall of facts):

Specific vocabulary to offer: morning meeting, help, sign language, sing

Possible questions: Can anyone help me remember the sings to use for the breakfast song?
Does anyone remember what day of the week it is? What month?

Possible teaching strategies: Have them think theyre helping me, which will make them feel
useful and want to participate.

How is this experience personalized (i.e. modified) to meet the varying developmental and
individual needs of the children in your class? (e.g., older children, younger children,
specific needs or interests?)

Since the children are used to singing this song pretty often, we know that it is developmentally
appropriate. Not to mention that everyone eats breakfast and the children have various meals in
common, so it is an interesting topic for them to discuss and share with the group.

Specific materials needed that are not already accessible to children:

None.

REFLECTION/EVALUATION

What did you do well?

I used the help of the children to do the breakfast song with them and complete the morning
meeting without distractions or having to end it early.

How did the children respond to the experience presented? (Describe your observations
of childrens words and actions) What worked? What was difficult? Were there any
surprises?

The children were so helpful! They all participated with much intent and did a great job of
paying attention to what I was saying and listening when I gave instruction.

One thing that worked well was utilizing their routine and what they are familiar with.

I was surprised how the children got more involved once they knew I needed help. For
some of them who were having a rough morning, this perked them right up!
What additions or changes would you make if you were to do this activity again? What did
the children teach you (e.g. about curriculum, teaching, or children)?

If I did this activity again, I would include another activity to do with them before they are
dismissed for jobs. For example, I would maybe include a short book to read out loud or a flannel
story.
