Appendix A: Vocabulary words

1. DADA: Dada or Dadaism was a form of artistic anarchy born out of disgust for the social, political and
cultural values of the time. It embraced elements of art, music, poetry, theatre, dance and politics.

2.Feminism: is a range of political movements, ideologies, and social movements that share a common
goal: to define, establish, and achieve political, economic, personal, and social rights for women.

3.Contemporary Art: is the art of today, produced by artists who are living in the twenty-first
century. Contemporary art provides an opportunity to reflect on contemporary society and the issues
relevant to ourselves, and the world around us.

4.Collages: an artistic composition made of various materials (such as paper, cloth, or wood) glued on a
surface cut pictures from magazines to make a collage

5. Crochet: a handicraft in which yarn is made up into a patterned fabric by looping yarn with a hooked
needle.

6. Social Issue: political, religious, economic, etc.

7. Leather Hard: when clay dries to the consistency of a leather belt.

8.. Textures: another element of art, is used to describe either the way a three-dimensional work
actually feels when touched, or the visual "feel" of a two-dimensional work

9. Clay: sticky fine-grained earth, typically yellow, red, or bluish-gray in color and often forming
an impermeable layer in the soil. It can be molded when wet, and is dried and baked to make
bricks, pottery, and ceramics.

10. Pinch Pots a simple form of hand-made pottery produced from ancient times to the present.
The pinching method is to create pottery that can be ornamental or functional, and has been
widely employed across cultures and times.

11. Scratch and score: To score (verb) a pot or piece of clay means to scratch hatch marks into it
as part of joining clay pieces together.

12. Slip A slip is a liquid mixture or slurry of clay and/or other materials suspended in water. It
has many uses in the production of pottery, and other ceramics ware.

14. Texture tools jewelry, lace doilies, found objects, etc.

17. Fettling knife: A sharp instrument with a flexible blade tapering to a point; used in ceramics
for carving of clay models, sgraffito, removing mold marks, and miscellaneous other purposes.

19. Tempera Paint: also known as egg tempera, is a permanent, fast-drying painting medium
consisting of colored pigments mixed with a water-soluble binder medium (usually a glutinous
material such as egg yolk or some other size)
