The

final paper that I wrote during the semester was Safe Studying. This paper

combined the idea of an opinion-based paper with an investigative report. I decided to write

my paper based off a situation that directly affected me in order to successfully propose an

effective solution. Finding the balance of stating the issue with supporting evidence as well as

researching a proposed solution was difficult. I needed to determine a way to effectively

convince my reader that there is an issue as well as convince him/her that my solution would

be the most affective.

My purpose of writing this paper was to inform the University of Rhode Island that there

is an issue with security on campus. I investigated my own claim in order to target the only

audience that has the ability to fix this problem, the university. By surveying multiple students

as well as librarians, I think that I was able to effective legitimize my claim. As the university

becomes aware of this on-going issue, it will also become aware of the population of students

that do not feel safe on this campus, which will force the school to make a change.

Although this paper wasnt specifically an investigative report, I did conduct an

investigation that was aimed at a specific audience in order to make a change.
