ENERGY FLOW DIAGRAM

The diagram from above depicts the process flow diagram that a coal-fired power plant.

It is further explained in the operation part of this research.

The figure below depicts the energy flow diagram of the coal-fired power plant.

This is the simplified energy flow diagram of the coal fired power plant. Coal is a

flammable black hard rock used as a solid fossil fuel. It is made up of 65 95 % carbon and also

contains hydrogen, sulfur, oxygen and nitrogen. Therefore having a stored chemical energy on

itself. This chemical energy is turned into heat through the burning of the coal.
Energy is transferred as heat to the water and steam in the boiler tubes. This heat is being

absorbed by the water and steam. As water absorbs the heat, it turns into low pressure steam.

Steam is therefore generated and being superheated, the steam turns into high pressure and high

temperature steam turning the blades of the steam turbine.

As the high pressure steam turns the turbine blades, it rotates the shaft of the turbine. The

generator being coupled to the shaft of the turbine also rotates therefore cutting flux and

generating electricity.
