Leaf Collection Project

Focus: For students to know the different types of trees in our area, and to see if the students can think
of ways that they can help the environment.

Duration: 2 weeks.: 1 week to gather the leaves, 1 week to place them into the binders.

Students are to gather leaves from their homes and bring them in to class. Students use class time to
place leaves into the binders with proper labeling.

Directions: Students are to go out and collect 15 different leaves from different trees and bring them in
to identify them. Students should only have one type of leaf from different tree. After the leaves are
gathered then, the leaves are to be placed in a binder (1 leaf per page).

On each page the students should have the following: (each page is worth 3 points):
1 leaf
Identify the tree that it belongs to (Bloom's level: Knowledge)
The date the leaf was collected
Location of where they found the leaf
Brief description of the leaf ( Bloom's level: Comprehension)
Compare the differences and similarities between 2 leaves. ( Bloom's level: Analysis)

At the end of the binder, students are to write a paragraph with at least 3 ways that they could help keep
the environment healthy.( Bloom's level Analysis)

A completed binder should have at least 15 different leaves, followed by a paragraph about ways that
we can help the environment.
