Inquiry proposal

Inquiry question:

Does the idea of civil disobedience relate more so to the desire for change or the

argument for things to stay the same?

Sub-questions:

Is civil disobedience always a negative thing?

What good has come from civil disobedience?

How has civil disobedience hurt or progressed our nation.

Keywords:

Culture, Riots, Protests, Movements, Civil Rights, Opposition, Disobedience,

Massacres.

Background of interest and initial research:

Recently I have become more and more involved in riots and protests erupting all

over our country regarding the killings of civilians. I hope to pursue the causes and

wants of the rioters/protestors and determine whether or not this opposition to the

government is more so a want for change by the protestors, or a suppression of

their efforts by the government.

Significance:

Throughout history there have been endless accounts of civil disobedience. This

has always been a battle between those in power and those who feel those who are
ruling are unjust. However, when a change is made it is not always for the best.

The significance of this assignment is to see whether the right lies with those who

want change or those who want things to stay the same.

Stakeholders:

Civilians, Government

Primary and secondary research avenues:

Ferguson protests, Baltimore riots, Charlotte riots, Civil rights movement,

American revolution.
