Retirement

We still go to work each day,

You to the garden,
Me to the study upstairs,
Each long going their separate ways.
I still offer my shaven cheek
For your glancing kiss
While you still hand me
My warmest winter coat,
My sandwiches and filtered coffee.
And, as I pass you your
Soiled working gloves and spade
You activate the stair lift
And I ascend into heaven.
