Show Choir Extra Credit Options

1. Attend a Concert Attend a classical music concert of a concert band, orchestra


or choir (anything else must be pre-approved). Bring back a printed program.
Prepare a paper with a written summary of the performance. Paper must be
typed, double spaced, and at least two pages long. Use the following prompt
ideas:
a. Write a brief description of the concert.
b. Describe the musical styles heard.
c. Rate the performers abilities and techniques.
d. What do you know about the composers of the selections performed?
(research if necessary)
e. What specific things did you learn from the performance?

2. Performance Learn and perform for the class (from memory) a vocal selection
that is new to you. Must be pre-approved. Must be a full song (at least 2
minutes long). Be prepared to tell who wrote it and when, and other interesting
facts associated with the work. If it is in another language be prepared to tell the
translation. Song can be classical, art song, musical theater, Broadway or jazz.
You must also provide your accompanist (or a recording).

3. Presentation Study and learn about a classical composer or the composer or


arranger of one of our choir songs. Must be pre-approved. Find out about this
persons life. Prepare a poster with the following items:
a. Interesting facts.
b. Brief life history.
c. List of famous compositions.
d. Pictures.
e. Anything else you find interesting.
Bring your poster and present it to the class. You also need to bring a song from
this person for us to hear. (It can be on CD or MP3) Your presentation must last
at least 5 minutes.

As stand-alone extra credit (counts under participation) the above options are
worth up to 30 points.

As make up for missed required performances (30% of your grade), the above
options are worth up to 120 points out of 200 points lost for the missed
performance.
