Applications of anthropometry

Importance of anthropometry in Architecture

Anthropometry is one of the areas that support ergonomics, and deals with the
human body measurements that refer to body size, shape, strength and ability to
work. Ergonomics, anthropometric data is used to design workspaces, tools, safety
equipment and personal protection, considering the differences between the
characteristics, abilities and physical limits of the human body. Then we give a
detailed report on what is anthropometry and its use in architecture study. The
architect, as a creator and designer of spaces to be generally used by man, must
take account of this science, as it is for man's use these spaces are designed. This
science is very important in architecture, for man lives by relating his figure with the
surrounding space and also looks to be in spaces that make you feel comfortable, in
a pleasant environment with regard to their scale and not as in ancient times, whose
spaces were designed to intimidate and / or impress and did not take into account
human scale. Another point to mention is that in architecture we seek the
functionality of space and provide answers to the design needs of the person. In my
opinion today printing is much taken into account (feeling) that causes a space man
in the design, because if the space will use the man, looking for ways that space as
comfortable and functional as possible for it.

PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF PEDIATRIC ANTHROPOMETRY

Growth is a continuous process from conception to adulthood, determined by the

genetic makeup of each individual and dependent on both environmental factors and
proper operation of the neuroendocrine system. Knowledge of it and its surveillance
depends largely on the future, not only of human beings but of the population to
which it belongs. The easiest way, economical and universally applicable to observe
the physical growth is anthropometry, one of the pillars of science that studies growth
and development, Auxology.

Anthropometry allows to know the pattern of each individual's own growth, assess
their health and nutrition, detect changes, predicting performance, health and
chances of survival. In the area of population it constitutes a valuable element for
decision making in public health issues, despite which is still underappreciated.

Growth is a continuous process determined by multiple factors studied by the

auxology, that uses anthropometry for the evaluation and monitoring of an individual
or population. This requires having appropriate patterns and validated reference.
