SFA Champions Student Center.
The dinner is held annually near
the end of the spring semester,
recognizing the athletic achieve-
ments from Lumberjack and
Ladyjack student-athletes over
the course of the last academic
year. Each team program was
able to present their team awards
as well as allowing a night of
well deserved recognition.
SFA
added another
conference champion to its
programs title in 2016-17, cour-
tesy of womens cross country,
bringing the departments total
to 86, ranking second all-time in
Southland Conference history.
In addition, five other SFA
programs notched conference
runner-up showings (mens
cross country, soccer, volleyball,
mens basketball and mens golf)
with bowling qualifying for the
NCAA Championship for the
third-straight season.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Closing out another successful season,
Stephen F. Austin honored its own at the 2016-17 Champions Dinner,
held Wednesday evening in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo
It was another incredibly
successful year for Stephen F. Austin,
highlighted by footballs Marlon Walls
being named a first team CoSIDA
Academic All-American and soccers
Brooke Dunnigan earning NSCAA
Scholar All-American honors. Nine
student-athletes were named to
their respective sports Southland
Conference All-Academic teams
(with nine sports still to have their
honorees determined) with Walls
being named the Student-Athlete of
the Year for football.
SFA remains in prime
position to capture its third-straight
Southland Conference Commis-
sioners Cup and the fifth overall.
The Lumberjacks currently sit at
125 points, holding a 13-point lead
on second-place Sam Houston State
(112 pts.). SFA currently sits atop the
Womens All-Sports standings with
71 points, four ahead of second-place
Central Arkansas 67 points, while
ranking second in the Mens All-Sports
standings by a half a point, trailing
the Bearkats 54.5 points to 54 points.
