The Family at Dr. Ernaldi Bahar Hospital Palembang Provinsi Sumatera

SUKANDA, and RINI HARTINI RINDA.

This research will describe about how is the post care schizophrenic
abuse by the family at Dr. Ernaldi Bahar Hospital Palembang Provinsi Sumatera
Selatan. The purpose of this research is to gain data and description about the
informer characteristic, the abuse type and shape, the reason of the informer why
the informer did the abuse, and the impact of the abuse to the schizophrenic.
The research used qualitative approach with the descriptive method. The
research design used a case study technique with three post care schizophrenic
families at Dr. Ernaldi Bahar Hospital. The informer choosing based on
purposive sampling to make it fix with the research judgement and purpose. The
data source used is primary data and secondary data. The data collection
technique used indepth interview, observation, and documents. The data validity
used careful observation, triangulation, and reference sufficiency. The data
analysis used qualitative data analysis that refers to Miles and Huberman concept
that is Data Reduction, Data Display, and Conclusion.
The research result show that there is an abuse that is done by the
schizophrenic family member. The abuses are physical, mental, and social abuse.
The background why the family knowledge about schizophrenia, inharmonic
relationship among the schizophrenic and the family member, the schizophrenia
symptom that cannot be controlled, and environmental factor. Whereas, the
impacts of the abuse are relapse, and a bad self concept of the schizophrenic.
Based on the research, the problem and need analysis, the plan of the
problem solving that the research suggested is The Family Self Help Group for
The Post Care Schizophrenic Family. The purpose of the program is to enrich
the family by knowledge and experiences of the group member in handling the
post care schizophrenic at hospital. The program execution used social group
work, with the Differential Reinforcement, Group Dynamic, and Modelling
Technique.
The success indicator is having the lesser abuse that is done by the family
to the post care schizophrenic, having the better knowledge of schizophrenic, and
the increase of the family role in trying to prevent, cure, and rehabilitation for the
schizophrenic.
