April 30, 2017
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Marylands Alpha Epsilon Phi (AEPhi)
chapter hosted a carnival event on Fraternity Row on April 30. The proceeds from
the event were donated to Horizon Day Camp. Horizon gives children with cancer,
and their siblings, a summer camp experience for free. This is one of the sororitys
biggest philanthropy events of the year
The event, which cost $5 for complete entry, was a large-scale carnival full of
many different activities. Attendees were given access to an
array of games including a bouncy house and a dunk tank, as
well as a variety of food options.
The sorority raised over $1400 through an auction,
ticket sales and co-sponsorships said assistant philanthropy
chair, Sam Rosen, a sophomore journalism major.
Vice President of Philanthropy, Jordan Greenberg was a
counselor this past summer at Horizon Day Camp.
Horizon gave me such an unforgettable summer with these
children I just wanted to give back even more, said Greenberg.
Horizon is such an amazing
organization, I love supporting them and
helping them achieve their goals,

sorority pitched in to help sell tickets, set
up and work the booths at the event. This past fall, sorority
members participated in a 5k walk to support the camp as
well.
We all had a lot of fun working with one another to put

this event together. Its amazing to directly see how these AEPhi member wearing hat to

Horizon Day Camp insists that counselors and campers
wear hats during the day so that no camper feels different or
excluded.
In that spirit, sorority members were encouraged to
purchase blue hats to support that cause. The girls were then given
the option to donate that hat to the camp after the event.

I was just standing there and my friend

because its all for a good cause said sophomore
communications major Sabrina Werz.
Many were impressed with the success of
the event.

the girls around me my sisters, reported Greenberg.
