Discussion

Based on the experiment, to find the coefficient of discharge, coefficient of

velocity and coefficient of contracta, there are some responding variable that is

related. The friction on water flow as the different of height of orifice and the

diameter of the orifice used is related to find this coefficient. The height, velocity,

volume flow rate of the orifice and the vena contracta will decrease when the height

of orifice is decrease. Referring to table 1.0, for the height of orifice 200mm, the

coefficient of discharge, Cd is 0.57 which is little bit higher compared to the

coefficient of discharge, Cd for height of orifice 250mm and 330mm. The

performance of the experiment will be better if the coefficient of discharge nearly to

1. When the height of the orifice decrease, the coefficient of vena contracta 1, CC1

will be increase. When the height of the orifice decrease, the coefficient of vena

contracta 2, CC 2 will be decrease. For 16mm diameter of orifice, the pattern is the

same but the value of coefficient of velocity and coefficient of discharge much more

lower compared to 8.32mm.

In this experiment, there are some error occur. The error occur because of there is

a dead bug inside the manometer. So the reading of the height of the vena contracta

will be not accurate.

Conclusion

As a conclusion, the objective was achieved because the coefficient of velocity,

coefficient of discharge, and coefficient of contracta for a flow through an orifice is

determined.
