Im so nervous for some reason Miss Summer.

Miss Summer

Yeah, its like the start to a new life...with a name!

What if they cant figure my name out? What if I have to live the rest of my
life with no name? Hi nice to meet you whats your name? Oh I DONT
KNOW! WHO KNOWS BECA-

Miss Summer
Hey, hey its okay we will find out!

Jeffrey
Yeah, unless you werent born in this hospital.

(Miss Summer lightly hits Jeffrey)

Miss Summer
HEY! Dont say that!

Jeffrey
Okay, sorry, Im just saying that (Miss Summer gives him a look) nothing

Miss Summer
Thats what I thought.
 Alyssa
What if I have an ugly name! Like, like Agatha or maybe Deloris! Ugh, I
think Id rather not have a name than to be named Deloris! Or, or Bertha! If
my name is Bertha Im going to cry. Or Agatha, Edna, Betty, Gertrude! So
many names that I dont want!

Miss Summer
No matter what your name is you will still be the same person!

Alyssa
Yeah, the same person with an ugly name.

Miss Summer
No, dont say that. Im sure whatever your name is it will be beautiful!

Jeffrey
Yeah kiddo, everything will be fine. Trust me.

Alyssa
Okay, okay. Ugh, I feel time is moving at a snail's pace!

Nurse
Amelia Summer

Miss Summer
Okay, come on sweetie, let's go!

Alyssa
Oh wow okay Im still so nervous.

Miss Summer
Dont be. Everything will be fine. This is a happy step in your life.

Nurse
 Okay we have to take your footprint quickly, then send it through a system
to find out all of your information!

Alyssa
Will it hurt?

Nurse
No, not at all. It might even tickle a bit!

Alyssa
Okay, sorry. I have never been to the doctors before.

Nurse
Its okay. This is no big deal.

(nurse takes her footprint and leaves room)

Miss Summer
Are you excited?

Alyssa
Yeah, I cant believe this actually happening. My life has been such a roller
coaster lately.

(The nurse enters holding papers)

Nurse
I have some good news

Alyssa
DO YOU KNOW MY NAME?

Nurse
I do, your name is..
 Alyssa
Come on! Tell me, say it!

Nurse
Alyssa Ann Spencer!

Alyssa
Oh, yay! It is not Deloris!

(Alyssa jumps down from the bed and hugs the nurse, Jeffrey, and then
Miss Summer)

Nurse
Glad, youre happy! Ill maybe see you another time, Alyssa. Good bye
sweetie.

(Nurse exits)

Alyssa
This is one of the best days of my life! Other than the day I moved in with
you Miss Summer. Oh, and the day you took me out for ice cream and toys.
And the day I found out I am playing Annie on Broadway! Other than those,
this is the best day of my life!

(Miss Summer and Jeffrey laugh)

Miss Summer
Okay Alyssa, lets get out of here.

(They all exit into the New York streets)

Alyssa
Im so happy to have a name to myself. Most people wouldnt think that this
a big deal, but for me it is. It is very important.

Much better! I cant believe I didnt give you a chance at first.

Alyssa
Its okay. Im just glad I didnt give up.

Me too, Alyssa. Okay, go ahead backstage for hair and makeup. Opening
show is at 7:00 sharp!

Alyssa
Phew, okay. I got this. I have worked so, so hard these last couple weeks
and I know I can do this!

(Later in the night, performance time; lights get dark and Alyssa enters)

Alyssa
Maybe now its time, or maybe when I wait

(Lights get dark and then bright again as Alyssa bows with the cast of
Annie)

Alyssa

(Alyssa exits; Miss Summer and Jeffrey walk up to one another)

Hi, hi Jeffrey. Wow, youre standing very close.

Jeffrey

Miss Summer

(They stare at each other for a long time, then kiss)

(They kiss again)

(They kiss more intensely as the lights dim)

Act 2, Scene 7
(Miss Summers home)

Miss Summer
Are you two ready for lunch? I made us some sandwiches.

Jeffrey
Yeah, Im starving.

Alyssa
Same here. What kind of sandwich did you make me? The usual?

Miss Summer
Yep, pb&j with grape jelly, not strawberry, and creamy peanut butter, not
crunchy.

Alyssa
Thanks, youre the best Miss Summer!

Jeffrey
Yes, you are the best, Amelia

(Jeffrey puts his arm around Miss Summer and kisses her on the cheek)

to just move in with me? I mean, you dont have to, its just an idea, but if
you want to that would be great. Its okay if you have other plans or even if-

(Jeffrey laughs and puts his hand over Miss Summers mouth)

That would be great! When do you want me to move in?

Miss Summer
As soon as possible! I want to spend every living second with you!

Alyssa
Hello? Hi. Remember me?

That was so incredible! These were the best couple of months of my life. I
cant believe its over.

(Miss Summer and Alyssa are crying)

I cant tell if these are sad tears because the show is over or happy tears
because everything went so well.
(Whole cast of Annie enters with happy tears)

May I just give a big thank you to each and everyone of you. I may have
put a few of you through hell and back, but in the end everything worked
out. Alyssa, I denied you so many times, but you never gave up and I am
so glad. Thank you so much Alyssa. Honestly, thank you.

Hi everyone. I have something to announce. As most of you may know, I
have been Alyssas legal guardian for the past couple of months throughout
this musical. She has made my life so much happier and just cant let her
go, so

(Miss Summer pulls out papers from her purse)

Miss Summer
I have gotten the official papers and I have successfully adopted Alyssa!

(Everybody cheers while Alyssa runs over to Miss Summer and hugs her)

Awh, youre welcome! I have been trying for weeks to get them!

 Its crazy to think that last year at this time I was starving, cold, dirty, and
alone and now Im starring in a musical and living in a real apartment!
Thank you everyone who took part in this musical. I have worked harder
than I ever have in my life. You all changed my life, so much! In a good way
of course. Miss Summer, I cannot wait to spend the rest of my childhood
years with you!

(Miss Summer walks to Jeffrey as he gets on one knee and the cast circles
around them)

I thought about a lot of things to say, but then I realized that I am just in
love with you and thats all you need to know. As soon as I laid my eyes on
you, I knew you were the one. So, uh, Amelia will you marry me?

(Jeffrey pulls out a ring out of his back pocket)
