Jessica Jickels
CIS Coordinator
Community Interpreting Services
2125 West 7th Ave.
Vancouver, BC V6K 1X9
I am applying for a position with Community Interpreting Services. I believe that this job would be a good
fit for me because I am very passionate about interpreting and am very excited to begin working in the
profession. I am very personable, flexible, and easy to work with. I am also very hard-working and
dedicated; I take pride in my work.
I have recently graduated from the Program of Sign Language Interpretation at Douglas College after
completing two full years of study. I have been studying American Sign Language in different
environments for the past four years. I also have experience in volunteer interpreting with Deaf, hard-of-
hearing, Deaf-Blind, and hearing consumers of all ages.
I chose to begin learning American Sign Language because of a fascination with the beauty and complexity
of the language itself. That fascination took me to Camosun College, where I studied the language under a
Deaf teacher for a year. It then took me to Washington, DC and the Philippines, where I lived and learned
with Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing people over the course of a six-month Discipleship Training
Program with Youth with a Mission. From there, my love for the language, along with my love for the Deaf
community and Deaf culture, took me to the Douglas College Program of Sign Language Interpretation,
where my fascination grew even more over the course of two years.
I am very interested in discussing this opportunity with you further. I will follow up with you in a few
days but in the meantime, feel free to contact me at t.archer.interpreting@gmail.com.
Sincerely,
Taylor Archer
