Darn Yarn!

1. Hypothesize the total metric length of the alimentary canal in your journal.
2. Research the function and metric length of all of the organs along the
alimentary canal: pharynx, esophagus, stomach, duodenum, jejunum,
ileum, cecum, ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon,
sigmoid colon, rectum, anus. If your research gives you a small range to
account for human variation, choose the longer length.
3. Compile the length of each organ into a total length for the entire human
alimentary canal.
4. Measure the total metric length of the alimentary canal in yarn.
5. Label each organ with a brief summary (5 words or less) of its function.
6. Cut each organ name and function out separately and create a tab with tape.
(see example)
7. Affix each tab at the correct location along the length of year. The tab
should be placed at the starting location of each organ.
8. Create a different tape with your scrap paper and create a label with group
member names and block number.
9. Wind/organize yarn and place into a Ziploc bag.
10.Answer Analysis questions in your journal.
Analysis:
1. How did your hypothesis of the metric length of the alimentary canal
compare to the actual data? Why the discrepancy?
2. What organ was the longest? Why?
3. If you were going to build a more accurate, realistic model of the alimentary
canal, what materials would you use and why? Diagram a potential build
plan and explain
