1.1Introduction

Our country suffers from the multifarious crisis such as socio-economic,

political and financial crisis. Despite all of these, Filipinos are still imaginative,

creative, courageous and resilient to surpass these obstacles in everyday life.

Companies affected by the crisis are forced to decrease the number of their

employees called recession. However, some have job openings that offer

career opportunities to college graduates. This offers a new challenge into

their early lives a great responsibility that someday will help their family to

strive, apply his acquired knowledge and skills when he engage into a job and

ultimately act as one of our reinforcements in the industry that would further

improved the depleting economy of the country. All of these first come from

wishes, dreams and inspirations that arises during the childhood years a

role playing game that someday he or she will become a doctor, an architect,

a teacher, a police, or an attorney. According to Ginzberg and his associates,

during the fantasy period, the play gradually become work-oriented and

reflects initial preferences for a certain kind of activities. This stage is the

preparation for a childs highly organized social life they will be required to

adjust when they enter the first grade.

making is a continuous process in which individuals will change their courses

of career action generally, by leaving a setting environment. Such as when a

student is disoriented in his course that he has been taking that

will result in decreasing eagerness in that particular field. He will and may

decide to transfer into another school or to shift into another course that fits

his own interest. When one is unstable in making decision, it may lead to

major distraction of ones future job.

Therefore, this study intends to determine the factors affecting career

preferences among senior high school students of San Jose Del Monte

National High School of academic year 2016-2017. These factors that serve

as preferences of student in choosing a career in college includes childhood

aspirations, family/relatives, peers/friends, interest and specialization, values,

in-demand jobs, school guidance counselor and anticipated problems

encountered are presumed to affect the students preferences of their career.
