    To Whom It May Concern:

    It is with great pleasure that I write this letter in support of the application for John Phelps. I have
    had the opportunity to witness Mr. Phelpss contributions to the students, staff, and community of
    Anoka-Hennepin over the past six years. During this time frame, I have observed Mr. Phelps in
    the role of High School Principal and, most recently, Central Office Principal on Special
    Assignment.

    Mr. Phelps possesses many qualities that lend themselves to success in the role of Superintendent
    of Schools. First and foremost, he is student-centered, doing everything it takes to champion
    educational attainment and increase learning opportunities for kids. Mr. Phelps masterfully
    combines experience, research, and practicality in innovative and creative ways to support student
    achievement, find effective solutions to overcome obstacles, and provide assistance to staff in
    whatever manner necessary. Along with multiple other research-based best practices, Mr. Phelps
    exemplifies the use of data to inform, verify, and validate decisions. He embodies a collaborative
    approachability, balanced with high expectations of accountability. Together with accountability,
    he offers encouragement, support, and the needed resources to produce desired outcomes. Mr.
    Phelps is authentic, hard-working and persevering; undoubtedly going beyond the call of duty to
    meet the needs of his educational community.

    In addition, Mr. Phelpss strong leadership, poise, and professionalism in every facet of his
    interactions are unparalleled. Not only is he visionary, recognizing the direction, strategies and
    methodologies that will be of greatest benefit to students, parents, and staff, he also skillfully
    embraces strategic planning, implementing the necessary supports to move a school and the entire
    organization forward. Due to his outstanding leadership, demeanor, imaginative out-of-the-box
    thinking, and demonstrated results, Mr. Phelps is respected among peers, staff and community
    members district-wide.
