Plicker Cards Activity

Purpose/objective of the engagement:

Students will be able to identify the characters, setting, and major events in the
book What Kind of Family Is This? by Barbara Seuling by selecting the correct
multiple choice answer with their plicker cards.

CCSS: CCSS (1rd Grade): RL1.3 Describe characters, settings, and major events in a
story, using key details.

Plicker Card Questions

Summary of Task:

The teacher will read the book What Kind of Family Is This? by Barbara Seuling.
While the teacher is reading, the students will be asked to think of the following
questions: Who are the important characters in the story? Where does this story
take place? What are the conflicts that arise throughout the story? These
questions will be written on the front board so that students can refer to them if
they forget what they are supposed to be focusing on.
After the book is finished, the teacher will call on two or three students to give a
brief summary of what happened during the book.
Next, the teacher will have students go back to their seats. Once everyone is in
their seats, the teacher will hand students their number plicker card.
Next, the teacher will project the plicker card questions one-by-one on the
smartboard so that all of the students are able to see them.
After the students have submitted their answer for all six questions, the class will
go over the questions and have an in-depth discussion about the book.
