Grading Policy


Concerts (40%)
Participation (20%)
Assignments (20%)
Attendance (20%)



Concerts 40%
There will be at least two concerts per semester. Attendance for each concert will
count for 40% of your grade. Student must arrive on time, proper attire and with all
materials necessary (this includes instrument, music, pencil, rosin, mouthpiece, etc.)

Participation 20%
For each grading period, a participation grade will be based on whether the student
follows the class procedures (such as playing at the appropriate time), is actively
participating in class, follows instructions and comes prepared to class with all
materials (instrument, music, pencil, mallets, mouthpiece, mute(s), etc.).

Assignments 20%
There will be several written and performance assignments throughout each
grading period. Grades will be averaged and form 20% of the final grade of each
grading period. Playing assignments will be assigned at least one week before the
due date and will be recorded. Written assignments will be given in advanced with
detailed instructions.

Attendance 20%
Attendance will be taken at the beginning at the call time for every concert, and at
the beginning of every sectional.
Arriving on time (being ready and seated at least 5 minutes before the starting time)
will equal an A/100 for the rehearsal; failing to arrive will equal an F/0.
Attendance to performances is required. Absences or tardies must be excused in
advanced. If an emergency arises the orchestra director will determine whether the
absence is excused.
