Policy Issue: Increase the budget for TRIO programs so they can help more low-
income students and also provide more access to resources for students who are in the
programs that falls under TRIO already.

Policy Solution:
Contact the Asst. Secretary of Trio Program assistant secretary, Lynn B. Mahaffie. She
is the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy, Planning, and Innovation (PPI) in the Office
of Postsecondary Education (OPE). She is responsible for policy development
(including regulatory activities) relating to the Federal student aid programs which award
more than $160 billion to more than 25 million students each year. Lynn is also
responsible for regulatory activities affecting grant programs.
examine students FAFSA forms and see how much their family contributes to their
education. This will prove that students need more grants or not.
Gather students from TRIO programs to discuss what we can do as students who
needs more resources to earn a degree.

Action Chosen:
Call Lynn B. Mahaffie
Specifically, talk to EOP staffs and students on what to say to Lynn.
Share their own stories on how much grants are needed for TRIO programs

Immediate Goal of Action:

Contact the EOP student organization and set up a meeting with the students who are
all a part of the program.
Invite EOP staffs as well
Explanation:
It takes more than one person to take a stand against this.
If there is one leader who is going to take a stand, they will need others to back them
up.
All the students who qualifies to be in the EOP program are students who lack
resources or are in need of financial support.
We all are under the same umbrella and we need to identify the problem together.
Like how we learned in class, we must identify the problems and propose the problem.
It has been in the news media about the proposed budget cuts that Trump wants take
away from TRIO programs.
If we put it more out there, it can be in the agenda and be discussed.

Plan for implementing Action:

Gather those students who wants to take a stand and prevent more budget cuts.
Discuss what our vision is.
Who we can talk to and voice our opinions.
