Message from the Rabbi
I have been asked to write words of welcome and
introduction for tribute journals almost annually, and the
words usually flow easily off the pen. We have always been
blessed with deserving honorees who have exemplified, each
in their own way, the ideals and values of Beth Jacob - and their very being
has made it an easy task to acknowledge their contributions here.
For obvious reasons, the words do not flow so easily this time. The difficulty
in writing these lines lies not in the awkwardness of being the honorees, but
in the inadequacy of words to describe the privilege it is to be servants of
this kehilla.
Miriam and I count the years we have been allowed to serve here among
the greatest gifts we have ever been given. It is a privilege we have never
taken for granted, and we still wonder what we did to deserve it. You
have allowed us to be part of your lives, and to feel the deepest love and
connection we could ever imagine with a community of individuals. Few
people are given such an opportunity, and we are so grateful for the trust
you have placed in us. Our fervent tefilla is that we be given guidance and
strength to be up to the task.
We are thrilled to be sharing the spotlight of this years dinner with two
very special people. Michael Cenker has had only one relationship with
the shulthat of servant. He has served in so many capacities over the
years, involved with youth, mikvah, construction, board service, and so
much more. His epic supervision of the Main Shul Renovation Project is
his coup de grace, providing the shul with indispensable expertise in project
coordination. The renovation is a testimony to his diligence, devotion, and
professionalism, and an expression of his love for this shul.
Rabbi and Mrs. Feldman are the bridge that connects the inspiring history
of our Shul to a glorious future that we continue to build. Through years of
toiling and fertilizing the spiritual soil of Atlanta and sowing within it Torah-
inspired seeds, the Feldmans have nurtured the Toco Hills Torah community
into what it is today - whether by the schools, organizations, or institutions that
they founded, the educational offerings and spiritual inspiration they provide
week in and week out, or their never-ending investment of love, care, and
devotion to each individual member of our community through times of great
joy and great sorrow alike. Simply put, the Feldmans are the spiritual soul and
rock of our community.
We also recognize the dedication of our lay leaders who help bring this
collective spiritual vision to the future. It is therefore befitting that we honor
Michael Cenker and Jodi Wittenberg as our Man and Woman of the Year,
as they are both individuals who have taken it upon themselves to bring the
message and beauty of Beth Jacob to the next generation. Michael has worked
tirelessly chairing the revitalization of our landmark sanctuary, and the fruits
of his efforts will be realized in a few short weeks. Jodi has given almost
two decades of deep, passionate investment to the women and youth of our
community, who form the bedrock upon which our community has been
built.
May our honorees continue to reap the rewards of their efforts and may our
community continue to grow and shine as a model Torah community for the
world. Mazel Tov!

Dear Friends,
It is an honor to join you in paying tribute to your mara de-atra and rebbitzen, and our distinguished
colleague, Rabbi Ilan and Mrs. Miriam Feldman for 25 years of notable service to your congregation,
community, and Am Yisrael.
Rabbi Feldman has distinguished himself as a talmid chacham, rav, leader, preacher, educator, and
counselor. With his compassion and empathy, he has touched the lives of many. Through his efforts in
the shul, Torah Day School of Atlanta, Atlanta Scholars Kollel, Atlanta Kashruth Commission, and the
Florence & Seymour Gerson Mikvah, he has transformed Atlanta in the Yerushalyim of the South, and he
is recognized nationally for his work with AJOP as well as his creativity and insightfulness. Mrs. Miriam
Feldman has contributed to the intellectual and spiritual welfare of the community, educating the youth
and inspiring generations of Jewish women. She is the founding principal of Temima High School, a
school which has achieved national acclaim. Together they serve your community with love and
devotion, while raising a family dedicated to the values of Torah and Klal Yisrael; .
Together the Feldmans epitomize the gemara, Yoma 86a:
" : ,- ) ' , (
, , :
) , "( , . ,
".
One fulfills the mitzvah of ahavat Hashem (and ultimately create Kiddush Hashem) by inspiring others to
love Him. This is done when religious, learned people exhibit kindness, compassion, and empathy; are
honest and decent in their comportment; and are respected and beloved by their community. Of them,
and of Rabbi Ilan and Miriam Feldman, it can be said, You are My people through whom I, God, am
glorified.
Mazal tov as well to Michael Cenker, Man of the Year, and Jodi Wittenberg, Woman of the Year.
Sincerely yours,

Beth Jacob Preschool welcomes all Jewish children of the Greater Atlanta
Jewish community, ages three months through pre-kindergarten. We offer
half-day, full-day and extended care for either three or five days a week.
Our school provides early childhood students with a foundation for learning by
nurturing social, physical and cognitive development through their earliest
years. We are proud to offer an intergrated Judaics curriculum which synthe-
sizes age-appropriate experiences with Jewish concepts and teachings.
Beth Jacob teachers and staff respect the dignity, worth, and uniqueness
of each individual child and family.
14
Beth Jacob Legacy Fund, Inc. provides an endowment for the current
and future needs of our congregation. This fund is a cushion against
financial uncertainty and supports future growth and development.
Since its inception, Beth Jacob Legacy Fund has received close to half a
million dollars in bequests and donations, and has provided $34,500 to
support Beth Jacob operations.
15
Today we seldom find dedicated dynamic individuals capable of enhancing the life of others.
Therefore, Rabbi Ilan and Miriam Feldman, shining examples of Torah leadership, are truly
select and rare individuals. They are the driving force behind Beth Jacob, a nation-wide model
for communal and congregational life.
Whereas we, the undersigned Rabbis, Community Leaders, and AJOP officers, together with
the entire AJOP membership, have witnessed the remarkable growth and development that
Rabbi Ilan and Miriam Feldman have brought to the Greater Atlanta community and beyond,
we would like to offer our appreciation for their many accomplishments.
With respect and admiration, we wish them continued success and
congratulate them for all they have achieved.

We have grown physically, spiritually and professionally. Our
community has grown as well. When we arrived there were 5 shul

not shul members on our street. We are grateful for the unique

Thank You for 25 Years of Inspiring Leadership
JODI WITTENBERG
The burst of energy around every corner; the pillar of all pillars;
the pinata of ideas and creativity; the heart that beats and pumps
just to do mitzvos; doesnt know the word no and finds a way
to achieve the goal no matter the obstacles.
How do we know this?
We are privileged to call her ours; we are blessed and honored
by her love, care, and sharing. Long overdue is this honor
but then we all know this. Never a glory seeker; just roll your sleeves
up and get the job done. You have a global Jewish community that
benefits from each and every task that you have undertaken.
You exude ruach and koach unique to only you. Thank you for being
our daughter; thank you for the opportunity to briefly express
the accolades that we bestow in your direction.
