Course Description : To provide students with the understanding of basic theory of

communication systems through laboratory exercises. This includes
analog and digital communications systems. The course offer hands-
on experience in handling the EMONA board and oscilloscope.

1
Course Objectives : At the end of this course, students should be able to:
1. Understand the fundamentals and basic theory of communication
systems through the laboratory exercises.
2. Discover digital communication systems which include digital
modulations and demodulations
3. Recognize the various communications devices and their functions.
4. Recognize the components and interconnecting devices for
computer network, as well as the skill to set-up and debug a data
network.
5. Gain hands-on experience handling the communication system
equipment.

Transferrable Skills : Students are required to work in a team to perform the experiments
related to communication systems. They are also expected to gain
hands-on experience in handling the equipment.

Plagiarisme:

Student must not adopt or reproduce ideas, words or statements of other person
without an appropriate acknowledgement. Plagiarism will be heavily penalized. If
the written lab report is found similar with other persons work (regardless which
one is original or copied), no mark will be given for the lab report and
professionalism & ethics.

Format of Lab Report:

Objectives (1 mark)
o State clearly the objectives of the experiment
Introduction (3 marks)
o Includes necessary background principles for the experiments. DO
NOT COPY from lab manual.
Results & observations (10 marks)
o Label all graphs, figures, tables correctly (x-y axis, titles/captions).
Indicate clearly the type of output waveforms.
Discussions (10 marks)
o Discuss and interpret all important trends and data comparisons
based on the results obtained. Problem encountered during
experiment should also be highlighted.
Conclusion (4 marks)
o Describe the overall conclusion and relate it with the objectives.
