How to power off an E-Series storage system

All models and code levels

This applies to any shutdown of an E-Series system.


Example:
When moving the system to a new location, data center upgrades, hardware replacement or
upgrades.

Procedure

Perform the following steps:

Powering Down

1. Halt the Host I/O.

2. Perform any additional steps required on the host, such as unmounting file systems.

3. Wait for five minutes.

4. Ensure there are no background operations in progress (in GUI, Monitor -> Reports ->
Operations in Progress)

5. Power off the Controller-Drive enclosure.

6. Wait for the LEDs to go dark.

7. Power off each Expansion enclosure.

8. Wait for two minutes for the drives to spin down.

At this point, disconnect the cables and start moving/removing hardware, or perform any FRU
activities.

Powering Up

1. Power on all Expansion enclosures.


2. Wait for two minutes to allow the drives to spin up.

3. Power up the Controller-Drive enclosure.

4. Wait for three minutes.

5. Reconnect the cables, if required.

6. Resume the host activity.
